Knowledge of the WEP key is necessary to USE a wireless connection. Knowledge of the user name and password is necessary to ADMINISTER the wireless router, two different things. If you try to establish a browser connection to (or whatever address your router uses) it will always ask you for the admin name and password. This is true of all routers, not just yours. The factory default values for the WNR1000 are "admin" and "password".

Find wep key for netgear router

for you to get the WEP key, you need to make sure that you are connected to the netgear router.
try to connect your laptop to the router via the ethernet cable. after securing this, open a browser, then type or on the address bar. it would ask you for a username and password. username is " admin" and password is " password " make sure that its in lowercase. then it
would take you now to the netgear setup wizard. on the left side of that screen you would see WIRELESS SETTINGS under set up. click on it. and scroll down to security options, there you would see your WEP key. you can also configure it if you want.

I want to find the router password/security key for others can use it,

to find the security key, you need to be connected hardwired to the netgear. or if you have a computer that is currently currently connected to it, try to open a browser and go to the address bar and delete everything inside it even the http:\\. now type this numbers, it should ask you now for the user name and password. username is " admin" all in lower case. password is " password" all in lower case. it would take you now to the netgear page. on the leftside of the page you would see WIRELESS SETTINGS. click on it. you would see your network name inside SSID and security key inside PASSPHRASE.

it would be easy, first things first. you need to connect your laptop directly to the netgear router. by plugging the ethernet cable on the first slot after the yellow slot on its back. after making sure that we are connected. try to open up internet explorer or mozilla firefox. then type this numbers, " it should ask you for a username and password. username is "admin" all in lower case and password is the word "password" itself. all in lower case. after that it would take you now to the netgear page. then try to check the leftside of the screen and look for wireless settings. make sure you would be on wireless settings. because the other one is advance wireless settings. then create your own network name in SSID. then choose security options as WPA PSK TKIP. then create your own personal password in passphrase. make sure its 8 characters long then click apply settings. then try to access it now then unplugged cable. then try to access website. it should work.

Need a securty code

Regarding your concern, please note that in order to get the network key/password on the NETGEAR router (MODEL_NUMBER), we need to login to the router's web interface using any computer which is physically connected to the router.

Please follow the steps on a computer connected to the router using an Ethernet cable in order to find the network/security key:

1. Open the browser (like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari).
2. Access the router, usually by typing '', '' or '' in the address bar.
3. When prompted for Username and Password please enter Username as 'admin' and Password as 'password' (please note that both Username and Password are case sensitive).
4. Click on Wireless Settings' under Setup from the left menu.
5. Check if 'WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)' or 'WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)' is selected under 'Security Options'.
6. If WPA-PSK is selected, copy the code entered in the pass phrase.
7. If WEP is selected, copy the code entered in the key that has been checked.

This is the code required for connecting the wireless computer to the NETGEAR router's wireless network.

In some cases, for security reasons the pass phrase might show as asterisks. In this case type a new password and click apply. You will then have to use the same password for all the wireless devices connecting to the network.

Trying to get on internet but its asking for a wep key or a wpa key I just completed hook up to netgear router have desk top and a wirerles lap top laptop is asking for info

The WEP and WPA key is configured in the router's wireless settings.
WPA is a stronger encryption than the older WEP encryption, I suggest you use WPA or better still WPA2.
To secure your wireless network, configure the wireless router and the wireless card in the computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

I have the modem and i get great connection but i can't connect beacause i don't remember the password

There are 2 passwords, but actually one is a key. If you've lost the router password, you will probably have to reset the router. If you've lost the key, you can get it from the web menu if the security was WEP. If it's WPA, you might have to generate new keys.

Try this first. Open up IE and go to If the box opens asking for username and password, try admin and password. If it opens up a Netgear screen, look down the left tab to Wireless Settings.

If your security is WEP, the key is displayed on that screen.

If this doesn't work, post back and I'll try to help you either login or reset the router.
