Open the door and push on the door switch paddle,if it doesn't click the door switch is broken.when you open the dryer door while it's running the dryer should shut off,if the switch breaks the dryer will either not run or will stay running,if the switch is clicking and is good then you have a broken push to start switch.this is the button you push on to start the dryer,this could break in the on position.let me know what you find

The start contacts in the dryer timer are welded together, the timer will have to be replaced to fix that issue you can order the replacement timer for that model at the link below:

Definitely sounds like a timer problem. Sears Parts Direct should have your part. The model # you supplied is incomplete to determine if you have a gas or electric dryer. Check the model # again and go to Sears page to find the correct part.

Whirlpool dryer will not start, used to start if I turned timer

whirlpool electric dryer will not start when you push start button. Model No. LER5634AW0. There is power to the dryer. The door switch appears to be working,(didn't check it with a meter). I push the start button, run it through all the cycles and still nothing. Are there any resets or circuit breakers that I could check? Where do I go from here?

HI. The timer will be the culprit here. The timer motor is damaged, and the cogs seem to be worn, as well. I recommend replacing this failed timer mechanism. Once replaced, the unit will operate correctly.

jefo, it sounds to me like your timer is not advancing. Does it move at all or stay in place? In what you are saying it will stop when you turn it to off, I would think it could be the timer that is the problem. Part # 53-1810.
