Question about Audio Players & Recorders

Open Question

HI!!! I have a Yamaha YP-450 turntable. The arm won't stay upright to play the record. I tried adjusting the round switch for the part that holds it up (marked 0 to 3), but this part appears that it does not work since the level remains at it's lowest point despite any adjustment-I also tried the counterweight as well, but I don't think that is the problem. Your assistance is appreciated. Thanks, Lyle

SOURCE: Turntable Sound Goes Flat

It could well be that the arm needs a re-wire. There could be a bad connection or a broken wire that makes a contact most of the time and then has a poor connection during the time you mention. Usually it is the wire that runs from the arm bearing to the wires that run out of the deck to the amp, as these are moving all the time. I find it is best to replace all the wire to save time in the long run. If you replace one part something else will always need replacing soon after.

SOURCE: jensen JTA 450 turntable skips?

Try moving the arm up to the end of the vinyl, if it does go till the end of the vinyl then try adjusting your counter weights, a penny will do, if it doesn't go till the end of your vinyl then there's a mechanical problem check any obstruction at the botton of your arm.

Record player repair

The top arm that swings over the spindle will control the automatic return. Leave the unit off. Swing the overhead holding top arm over and manually load a record. Now switch the top arm over the niddle spindle. Make sure that the switch is set for 7", 10" or 12" (45, 78, or 33). Manually place the tonearm at the start of the record and flip switch to 'play' (not reject or auto). It should play the whole record and automatically eject at the end and then shut off. Leave the arm swung over the middle after you loaded the record. Good luck. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Electro Brand model number 9801: I played one record, now when I tried to play another the turntable will not rotate. Could the motor have burned out that easily?

Listen carefully with your ear to the turntable when you move the tone arm towards the record. If you can hear the motor running and the turntable is still stationary then the drive belt from motor to turntable has probably fallen off of broken. Lift the turntable, there's normally a metal clip holding the turntable in place, and locate the drive belt.

Turntable won't stop spining

If it is a turnatable that starts spining when the arm is moved to the record, then more than likely the start/stop switch inside the turnable is broken and is fixed in the on position. Or the leaver mechanism has become detached from the arm when the record was playing and left the other part pressing on the same switch that turns the motor on or off.
Removing the bottom of the turntable should should show the trouble.

Denon DP-297 Turntable Tone Arm Skating

There should be a weight on the end of the arm, this needs to be adjusted. Some have numbers on them, increase the number shown. To get it to work right you will have to do it by trial and error. Increasing the weight in small steps, then playing a record. The trick being so it stays in the groove, but not too much so it rumbles on the sound. You will need to repeat the process several times till it sounds right and stays in the groove.

Needle skipping & not pushing down

There should be an "anti-skate" adjustment to control the arm moving across the record. It is possible that lubrication has stiffened up as well. This unit may need a general overhaul/cleaning.

Sears Tape deck/Turn table skipping!

Hi the pennies will mess up the stylus. There should be an anti skate setting at the back of the turn table, a round adjustable bit with numbers, increase the anti skate and then use the balance weigth (weight right at the back of the arm that turns to get the weight right. Set the anti skate with the tone arm light, then increase the weight a bit. Hope that helps

Record will not play to end.

There is a mechanism underneath the deck which senses "end of record". This is operating too early and will require adjustment.
