SOURCE: I have a JVC L-A11 turntable. I cannot get the

I just had my L-A11 in to 'the needle doctor' (Jerry Raskin's shop in dinkytown, Minneapolis) We had the same problem with the platter.

After pulling (hard) to no effect on the platter - using the holes near the spindle and pushing simultaneously on the spindle. The tech next got out a small hammer, and while pulling on those same holes in the platter, he gave it a sharp 'whack' on the spindle with the hammer, and it came right off (the platter). I would have been too feint of heart to do it, but it worked great.

You will have to lift the platter section off the unit itself. Check for the spindle motor turing the table and lay the belt out around the spindle motor. Refit the platter and work the belt around the inside of the platter through the two large holes in the tray.

How to remove Platter on JVC L-A120 Turntable

Hi Jeff...
The platter on the JVC LA-10 does not come off as most turntable platters do. It is attached to the spindle with a Philips head screw.

Here are the steps:
Remove dust cover from turntable. Unscrew hinges and lift.

  • Secure tonearm to prevent stylus damage.

  • Turn the turntable on its side and remove screws that hold the top to its base. Remove platter by unscrewing the bottom plate from the turntable. The spindle bearing is held in place with a Philips head screw. Loosen it and the platter will separate easily from the spindle.

  • Loop replacement band around the pulley cylinder in the motor. Replace platter and bottom plate. Tighten spindle screw. Test the new belt by turning the platter clockwise two or three rotations. Belt should fit snugly and turn with little resistance.

I have a JVC L-L1 turntable. The linear arm is quite sluggish and is actually making records skip. Any ideas other that replacing the motor?

I have this exact turntable. If the tone arm looks like it's not moving or not moving fast enough, it will make the record skip. It is NOT the turntable drive belt that is bad. It IS a 2nd belt that makes the tone arm assembly move. That belt is only about 1 3/4" diameter. I have yet to find one for mine. Turntable drive belts are readily available, but not this belt for some reason.

The trick is to lift up on the platter (tothat metal on metal feel that you had) while simtaneously "lightly" tapping on the top of the shaft with a hammer. Trust me it will work as just changed my belt.
    Hope that helps.
