Question about Canon PowerShot S1 IS Digital Camera
My camera made a firecracker pop when the flash was used and now the flash doesn't work anymore. I read that alot of people had the same problem and that it stems from athe hing in the flash. Do you have any ideas for fixing it??
There's a fix for this flash problem here: http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=34145&forum_id=15
Here's an excerpt:
"To make a long story short, if you look under the flash (left side as you're facing the flash), you will see a black catch mechanism held on by one small Phillips screw. When I removed this screw and pulled the catch off, there was a very small washer in between the catch and the flash plastic housing....this appears to be an assembly error. I reassembled the catch with the washer on the screw-side of the catch, and this fixed the problem completely. Again, the reassembly is Catch-Washer-Screw, NOT Washer-Catch-Screw. Hopefully this helps everyone out having this problem."

I have the same popping problem with my S1. Sort of like the old flash bulbs. Now the flash does not work at all. Love the camera but it's now worthless inside or at night.

I have the same problem, I can hear the sound of flash but it doesn't pop up and I don't see a light. I've tried resetting the camera to its original factory set and changing different batteries but no luck. How could the flash go out on a $300 camera. That's my last Canon alright.

Check with Canon. There could be a fix for it and covered under warranty as well.
