Your main concern is the temperature difference across the indoor coil for both heating and cooling. When you turn your thermostat from auto to on, you are on high speed.

If you have long duct runs and little return air registers then high speed
would help cool the house better. However in the heating mode, you
could lose up to 10degrees by having the high speed setting.

What they installed is sized for your house and the speeds should not have to be changed unless the ductwork is not sized right for the house.
Cooling should be High-Black wire.
Heating should be Low-Red Wire.

400cfm equals a ton of cooling= 1200 sq. foot, For cooling you need
High speed. For heating it is whatever the temperature rise across the
coil is, which is located on the furnace/air handler.

Is it the original size motor? It sounds like it could be to many CFM for the size of the duct causing back pressure when the blower goes into high.

1992 chevy C1500: Heat works on low speed, no medium, and high only works intermittantly.

On any other vehicle it sounds like the blower fan switch.
The fan switch provides power or ground to the resistor and there would be a high speed blower relay to bypass the resistor.
But in your case the fan switch is part of the controller.
I don't have a diagram for a 92 but the 94 model shows relays for low medium and high speeds. Each relay gets power from a fuseable link. The high relay gets power thru the low relay if the low relay is not engaged.
If you have the model with 3 relays you may need to check them.

If your home is 1300 square feet 1.5 tons is not going to cut it you should have at least 2.5 ton A/C unit. sounds like your system is to small. let me know if this helps you out.

Hi,
Many have sepaarate speeds for heating and cooling....check it out there should be a heat relay and a cool relay and the motor taps are hooked to each so maybe you can just do a bit of switching wires.....

But, really you probably will have plenty of air flow for the cooling side also if your running that low of a differential on the heating side...
Try it out the worst that can happen is that you will freeze up on the cooling and then you can just switch it back...

Cool fan low doesn't work. Doesn't appear to be

It needs to have the blower motor resistor card replaced.
It still works on high speed because on the high setting the voltage does not go through the resistor.
The resistor is mounted beside the blower motor and is easy to replace.
There you are, thank you for using FixYa.

How to change fan speed on a goodman gmp 100-3 furnace

Usually you can find the control board on the lower part of the furnace. Turn the power off and remove the
doors. This board is usually located directly in front of the blower motor.

On the control board locate the terminals marked heat/cool/park and Park Lets say the Heat Terminal
has a red wire attached to it and you want a higher
speed.

Red is uasually low speed, remover the red wire from
heat terminal and exchange it with a wire attached to
a terminal lab eled park. Black is usually high spped
