Question about Toshiba 57H81 57" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

Hi - the tv just blipped out one night. It had a little bit of greenish waves and then, nothing. When we push the power on, you hear the click, but nothing happens on the screen. The tv is only about five years old and was used very little in the first two years. Any ideas?

Hello,

Most probably the vertical deflection amplifier is failing. The most common part that fails is the vertical output transistor.
The set is too old to find documentation on part numbers and descriptions. Probably the part is no longer available and you will need the assistance of someone who can help you find an equivalent transistor that will do the job.
Of course, without testing we cannot be certain the failure is the output transistor. It could be from something else such as the voltage regulator that feeds the dc line to the vertical section. Could be the vertical synch level that goes too low to trigger the vertical sweep generator.

Sorry if it is getting too complicated but an old set like this can have so very many possible causes. .

Also check for dry soldering , if found resolder.
Hope find this helpful......

Johanna, most projection TV develop convergence circuit problems, this could be the cause of the green waves in the picture. Convergence correction is accomplished by a set(2) of converge power amplifiers, they usually quit due to excessive heat build up. The power cuts off or powers off because either one or both of the amplifiers short out and the protection circuit cuts the power off, some times the protection fuse or fuses blow out or open due to current excess. I recommend calling a TV repair shop and asking for a quick quote or a guess on what such a repair would run, but I think it would be around the 350 to 450 dollar range.

Do you have any other thoughts on what else it might be? Just trying to cover all bases before I bring in a repair man. My husband is very good at these kinds of repairs, but is at a lose on this one without some direction.

My lg scarlket 42lg60 will not power on

Make sure you have the TV's power cord put into a good outlet in your house. Next make sure the TV's power cord pushed all the way into the TV.

If you do not hear any clicking and or do not see any lights on the TV, the your problem is a bad power supply (switch mode power supply). This is a know issue with this 42lg tv.

Check to see if you still are in the one year warranty. If you are still in warranty, call LG for a free repair. 800-243-0000

Good luck.

Contrary to popular belief, any display product can have "Image Retention" and even "Burn-In". This is true for Plasma, LCD, LCOS, DLP, and CRT. I do not see a model number provided, but I would bet that you have an LCD rear projection TV rather than a DLP projection TV. If this is the case, the Blueish and Greenish blotches you are seeing on the screen are the result of UV light damage. UV light will move heavily damage the Blue panel, due it's short wave length. So, bad Blue or Green (absence or Blue) is typically the the first visual indicator of a problem. Replacing the Light Engine will resolve the problem.

well its probably nothing wrong with your phones. because you lost power, your phone company could have too. If they are down and not working, then none of your phones would work. Just give it a little time and if its just too long, i would find a way to contact them and figure out what exactly is wrong.

not to alarm you but several models that had the ambilight feature were subjects of the consumer products safety commission recall for shorting in the ambilight feature this can be checked on the us products safety commission website do a google search on your model number assuming the panel is not one of recalls the tv probably needs the power supply board there are several fuses on it ; one that you will find open the fuse shorted for a good reason there is power fet or sumthin on the power pcb dead shorted put in a new board call phillips consumer support and complain that you dropped way too much money on a flat panel tv when you could have bought a dlp tv if thats too complicated buy a new one
