Either the power supply has failed or the power cable is not getting power to the board (if the lights are amber). Check that the power cable from the power supply to the motherboard is fully seated. You may need to replace the power supply - you will need one that will fit your case and matches the various devices and plugs that you currently have. (20+4 pin for the motherboard gives the most flexibility, additional power for the CPU (4 pin or 8 pin), SATA if you have SATA devices, regular 4 pin peripherals for IDE hard drives and optical drives, 4 pin floppy, video card (if you have a PCIe card that needs a 6 pin plug), etc.)

I hope this helps.

on 3/27/2008, and had a warranty that expired on 3/27/2011.

Abbas Shah Yes, these information are correct
13:53:51
TMPw_SumeetD_197007
Excellent. Based on the symptoms you are describing, I would advise
trying a known-good power cord connected to a known-good power
outlet.
13:54:18
TMPw_SumeetD_197007
If the symptoms still persist, it will be necessary to replace the power
supply unit.
13:54:39
Abbas Shah you mean to say outer power cord, which is connected on back of PSU

TMPw_SumeetD_197007 Correct.

If I do not want to change my PSU, is there any other way that it can
be solved
13:56:13
Abbas Shah ?
13:56:51
TMPw_SumeetD_197007
Try replacing the power cord first. If that does not resolve the issue,
the PSU will have to be replaced.
13:57:06
TMPw_SumeetD_197007
The only other way to resolve the issue would be to replace the whole
computer.
13:57:16

13:57:46
TMPw_SumeetD_197007 Is there anything else I can assist with today?
13:57:51
Abbas Shah Like if I clean my PSU or put it in a freezer to reduce heat
13:57:56
Abbas Shah will it work ?
13:58:16 TMPw_SumeetD_197007 No, that will not work.27/1/2014 Moxie Software(TM) Customer Spaces Channels Customer Client

13:58:35
Abbas Shah then why does it take 2 hours to start working again
13:59:21
TMPw_SumeetD_197007
The PSU is in the process of failing completely. Soon it will not power up
again at all.
13:59:59
TMPw_SumeetD_197007 This is not uncommon for a component which is 6 years old.
14:00:33
Abbas Shah
But it does as I am using my computer right now.. I used my system last
night for 5 hours and shut it down then again I start after 10 minutes it
did not start and took almost 2 hours
14:00:36
TMPw_SumeetD_197007 Is there anything else I can assist with today?
14:01:21
TMPw_SumeetD_197007
It currently takes almost 2 hours to restart. Soon it will take even longer
to restart it. Soon after that, it will not start at all.
14:01:46
TMPw_SumeetD_197007 When a PSU is failing, this is a fairly typical pattern of symptoms.
14:01:49
Abbas Shah Do you have any solution other than changing the PSU
14:01:53
Abbas Shah
it will cost me alot
14:05:12
TMPw_SumeetD_197007
The PSU is failing, Abbas. In order to resolve the issue, it should be
replaced. If you have knowledge about how to take a apart a PSU and
examine or replace wiring or capacitors, you can choose to do that at
your discretion, however, there is a risk of fire or electrocution when
taking apart a PSU, and we can not specifically advise doing that, or
provide any instructions on how to do it.
14:05:37
TMPw_SumeetD_197007
Also, the time and expense involved in attempting to repair a PSU is
likely not much less than replacing the PSU.
14:05:47
TMPw_SumeetD_197007 Ok then, is there anything else I can assist with today?
14:06:43
Abbas Shah Thank you for your all assistance. I will contact you later

I have a broken Dell Precision 470 Workstation. The symptoms are as follows: Won't power up; Flashing yellow power LED on front panel; Blank STR_LED on motherboard; Yellow AUX_PWR LED on motherboa

Flashing front powerlight is often a result of a faulty powersupply, try another powersully on the pc and see if the problem gets solved. I've seen a few of these cases personally.

2 things.
The power led flashing amber can mean a failure of one rail in the power supply, or a bad connection (The cables are removable from the power supply) so you may try reseating power connections internally.
1 & 3 LEDs can mean a RAM failure

Dell Precision 490 constant reboot after ghost image completed

Hello-

I figured out how to ghost a Dell Precision 490 with a 32 bit Windows XP Image! Like you I had the same problem where it would constantly reboot after I imaged it with an existing 490 image. The answer is actually very simple. Boot up your Precision 490 and hit F2 to enter the bios. Select Drives and then SATA Operation, change it to "Raid Autodetect / ATA". Reboot the 490 and re image the machine, it will now work!
