Question about Mitsubishi XL8U Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

I have a Mitsubishi xl8u projector, with approx 2000 hrs max on its first lamp. Of late, the projected image has attained a blue tinge to its edges which is getting progressively worse and seems to be taking over the whole screen. I am afraid to invest in a new lamp in case the problem lies within the actual machine itself. Is this an indication that the lamp is nearing its end? Or is it even more serious? I would be grateful for your help in this matter. Cheers. Bob

Hi Bob

This most definitelly NOT the lamp.

It is unfortunatelly your Mainboard that is at fault , and will either need repair or replacement as this will only get worse as time passes.

Hope this is of help !

I,ve got a red spot in the screen i replaced the bulp but stil have the problem

it is most likely a burned polarizing filter. There is a polarizing filter on the blue light channel and another on the red channel. When black, or other dark colours are displayed, the red polarizing filter is supposed to block ALL of the red light being projecter. If the filter is burned, some light slips through and creates a red tinge on the projected image. If the red tinge only appears on dark images, but is absent when the images is completely white, a damaged filter is likely the problem.

Seems its hard to buy them. Best bet is probably buying a broken projector from ebay and stealing the filters out of it.

The XL8U will tell you when the lamp needs replacement. There is a yellow box that will appear telling you so. The lamp is easy to replace, the model number is VLT-XL8LP.

Mitsubishi XL8U Projector

Hi terry2421

No this is not the bulb. You will have to get the Mainboard repaired at a service provider. Losing signal and a discolouration showing up is a clear indication of a faulty Mainboard.

Get a quote first , because some service providers overcharge on these sort of repairs. The most you should pay is $150.

Yellow tinged edges

Your problem is most likely your Blue and Green lens' inside the light engine. It's not something you can replace yourself. I worked for Philips for 14 yrs. repairing the LCD projectors the last 6 Yrs. Call philips and get the number of an ASC in your area that has repaired projectors.

Yellow area in the projected image

Hello Media Man,

Looks like your projector has done it. Thats acommon trouble to ageing polirising lens, usually the blue. less blue, the green and red make up the yellowish image on the screen. The blue is bombarded with tremendous heat from the lamp and it fade and wash out. If its free, its worth replacing. Get quote for the poliriser; 2 pieces each color.
Good Luck.
