There might be a problem with one or more of your network adapters
I am with Tiscali broadband and everything was working fine until a few weeks ago when the internet stopped working. The error message coming up is that "there might be a problem with one or more of your network adapters". The computer runs on vista and we have a netgear router. We have foned tiscali multiple times but get through to their indian call centre who dont seem to know what is wrong and keep telling us to wait 24 hours for the engineer to ring and then they dont ring!! The engineer finally rung after about a week but does not know how to fix it and says they will ring again tonight. This is really starting to annoy me as we have not had internet now for over 2 week. Any help please would be really really appreciated!!

What are specifications you are using for your wireless network? B, G or N, WEP or WPA-1 or 2 encryption, etc. If everything was working fine at the beginning and no one has changed any of the network settings then that indicates an issue on the laptop. You can try to reinstall the driver by downloading it from the Acer website as a Windows Update could have installed an 'updated' driver that doesn't work properly.
You can check the wireless adapter is working properly in device manager: control panel>hardware and sound, under devices and printers, choose 'device manager'. Expand the network adapters menu and find the wifi adapter. Right click on this and click properties. You can see if the device is working properly under the general tab. You can also try updating the driver; from the drivers tab, choose update driver and then choose to search automatically for updated software. Also, try clearing browsing history and cookies: Go to start>control panel>network and internet, under the internet options heading, choose 'delete browsing history and cookies' restart the browser.
Windows WiFi Fix, Windows Zero Wireless Configuration is one of the best programs to run a WiFi in Windows XP or Vista. Most of the other software packages that come with the different adapters have been poor at best in keeping a connection through Windows. Here is the best guide to get you back up and connected. Windows XP: Click Start Right click on My Computer When a window pops up click on properties Click on the Hardware tab Click Device Manager Click the [+] next to Network Adapters Find your wireless card and right click on it. Click Disable Windows may warn you that disabling the device may make it stop functioning. Continue disabling the device. Wait 30 seconds or so. Right click on your wireless again and click Enable. Exit the device manager. Reconnect to your router. You should now be able to connect to the internet.

You say you dont have a modem....but you want to connect via dial up?
Well ok, you need to do the following:
1. Contact an ISP (people like Virgin, Tiscali, TalkTalk, etc etc etc) 2. Sign up for the package you want. 3. They will send you a modem. It wont be for dial up but broadband. 4. Connect it and off you go.
However, if you REALLY want to use the internet using dial up you will have to go find an old cheap dial up modem. BT, Tiscali and a few others do let you use a pay per min rate for dial up, but their is no one I know of that lets you get on line for nothing at all.
The only other service I have heared of was here: http://www.connect4free.co.uk/ And even they charge 1p per min.
So if I were you.... go broadband as its faster and in the long run, cheaper.
If this has helped you please rate it so that I know.
I re-typed in the WPA number in the new netbook, which has now got it working. I found the WPA number by typing in a number Tiscali gave me to search for my router information (Netgear) in the search bar on my main computer and getting my WPA key from there.
hi, the Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter is your built in wireless adapter. right click that then check the status if it is working properly, it would tell you that on the status, on that you will also have an option to go and update the driver of your card.
