System Restore & Java not working on Windows 7.

I have a new Lenovo with Windows 7 and 2 things aren't working - System Restore and Java. I've followed directions found on Google for the Java problem, but the line item it suggested is not on my computer.

I have Windows 7. When I try the System Restore and choose a date from the ones offered, it goes through and pops up with "system restore failed." Also can't figure out why my Java doesn't work. It's in the computer. Thanks for any help you can give me.

System Restore: I'm told that restoration feature works only when restoration files are stored on the PC. Usually any clean up programme or clean up disk features delete these files. Fine, now tell me how to fix it.

  • If you want to restore computer then windows disk is best for it.
Windows disk is very useful for computer life you can solve any issue of operating system files with windows disk even you can install windows at any time as you want.
Purchase that disk online or from nearest computer shop then when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or del or ALT+F2 key to enter in bios then go to boot menu and set first boot device as cd/dvd rom then save settings and exit then it boot with windows disk then follow the procedure and choose "Repair previous windows " option so it repair windows .

Hi,
Restoration feature works only when restoration files are stored on the PC. Usually any clean up programme or clean up disk features delete these files. If these files have been deleted then Restore feature doesn't work.... About the JAVA, java has two separate versions for 32 bit and 64 bit, make sure that you have installed version according to your system.... or the JAVA files from which the you have installed previously has been corrupted.. SO I will advised you to download the same again and install the fresh copy..... following link will help you to download the JAVA versions.... http://filehippo.com/search?q=java
http://java.en.softonic.com/

Hope this has helped you.... Thanks....

I guess you know what you mean, but I don't. I've run scans and cleanups almost daily, so there are no blips in my computer. How do I find out where system restore is and how do I get it back? The program runs as if it's working, but at he end a window pops up at the end saying that it failed. Can you give me something specific I can do to correct the problem. This is a new computer and new software.

Hi

System restore option restores the system to a previous point i.e. system restore point. For system restore to work there should be a valid system restore point present in operating system. Please check if there is valid system restore point, when you'lll select this you'll be able to see the creation date/time. Usually these system restore points are created automatically after significant change in system like installing a program/software. If you want to create a system restore point try installing a software/program and check whether system restore point is created.

Regarding Java installation, please check whether Java is installed on your system. Simplest way to check is go to control panel->program and features->check if Java is listed there. If it's not then you can download it from this link---

Java Download Link

However, if you're able to see Java listed under program and featurre option then I'll suggest you to uninstall it and reinstal it from the above link.

Hope this resolves the issue, else post back for further assistance.

I use the built-in System Restore function and choose a date from the ones offered. It goes through the process and at the end sends up a flag notifying me that the system was not restored. No other info is offered.

Java is listed on the Control Panel, but when I try to use it - to print a coupon, for example, nothing happens. I tried a set of instructions I found on Google, but it refers to the Java line item that isn[t in my computer. It's listed in the Control Panel, but not on the list of Tools, Internet Options, General, etc.

Please let me know if you can suggest anything else.

    Thanks, Lily

WINDOWS 8 PREVIEW INSTALLED ON LENOVO IDEAPAD AND IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY SO TRYED TO RECOVER TO WINDOWS 7 BUT NOT WROKING!!!!

You will need a separate recovery disk. Sounds like the recovery partition of your HDD got overwritten. Maybe you can create a windows WinPE (microsoft docs) and use that. This says what to do once you have a recovery disk.

I just got a new laptop with Windows 7, which I'm still learning how to use. I have Java Run time Environment installed, and I want to open a .jar file, but it won't let me open it with Java,...

Jar files are installers for Java programs - you shouldn't actually open them, you should just install them in an Java environment like that on the phones or in another program running in there. But in the Win & there is a way to bypass that:
1 - right-click on the file and choose "Rename." Change the file extension from .jar to .zip. Click "OK."
2 - right-click on the file and choose "Unzip." Your computer will use WinRAR to open the file.
3 - click "Save" to save the file to your hard drive then click "Open"
4 - double-click on the file marked "Install" or "Set-up" to install the program files on your computer. If the file does not have one of these options, open the program that the files are intended for and it will automatically detect and install the files.

I've been at this all day and still have'nt gotten my laptop to reset to a factory default setting. Can you please guide me through this process, step by step. Thankyou.

You can always restore the computer to a point when it was working fine.
For a laptop when you say factory defaults we've two things
1)Factory defaults on the Bios - as soon as u turn on the laptop we press F8 key or DEL(depends on the brand of the laptop) to get to the BIOS and you've an option to revert to the factory defaults.
It is advisable not touch the BIOS if you are not sure about this firmware
2)The operating system (lik windows xp,vista & 7) there is nothing called factory defaults for this all we've is a installation of the Operating system itself. However we can revert or restore back to last know good configuration mode.

How to start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature To start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature, follow these steps:
  1. Start your computer.
  2. When you see the "Please select the operating system to start" message, press the F8 key.
  3. When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked), and then press ENTER.
  4. If you are running other operating systems on your computer, use the ARROW keys to select Microsoft Windows XP, and then press ENTER

I have Lenovo R60. There is a problem while loading windows xp.

There might be a minor system glitch on your system. Perform a system restore in you system and restore your computer from the date where it is working fine then observe. If same issue will occur then you need to send it to our repair department for further checking.

Audio driver for windows 7 ultimate

Your Driver might be incompatible or incorrect driver. Check carefully, if you install it incorrectly, your PC could be at risk.

Since Windows 7 is a new operating System. Most Manufactures don't have the drivers of it. Talk to your Computer Adminstrator or contact one.

Windows 7 has recently released, so it's not recommend to upgrade it. You can rollback to Vista or XP with the System Restore if you wish.

You can also contact or email Microsoft for more info.

Yeah thats why people hate Vista soo much,,, you got 2 choices ...

1.) use the system restore utility to restire it to a previous date before the error occured..
a. click start and in the search box type restore
b.) a new window will open scroll down and find system restore and click on it,, follow the on screen instructions and hope it works..

Or

Format the computer and reinstall everything :(

Id'd suggest you downgrade the computer to xp..
