SOURCE: won't agitate

First unplug the washer and turn off the water. If you have a shop vac take the drain hose out of the drain, and through the drain hose vacuum the water out of your washer. If you don't have a shop vac go to the auto parts store and buy a pair of radiator hose clamps. Then facing the washer locates the two screws. They will either be in the front or rear of the control panel or back them out far as you can. Once you have done that pull the control panel slightly forward, and tilt it back on the hinges. Now unplug the lid switch wire but don't forget to plug it back when you’re done. Next locate at the rear of the washer body the two gold clips then push forward, and take careful note of how they fit. Then pop them out with a screw driver tilt the washer body forward at 45 degree angel and walk forward with the body, and set it down. Now you will see the white pump and motor assembly. You should see two clips holding the pump to the motor pop them off, and pull the pump off the motor shaft. Now if you fell the need to remove the pump use the radiator hose clamp. Take them and clamp the hose coming from the tub but it’s not necessary for the repair. Next disconnect the wiring harness from the motor (note the position of the harness for reassembly). Remove the two 5/16 inch screws from the motor clamps and pop the clamps off. Once that is complete, remove the motor put the new coupling on the motor and transmission shaft. I use a socket and a hammer
follow this but before getting to the motor coulping check to see if some thing is jamming the drain pump

SOURCE: agitator will not move unless you press down on it.

If the agitator is slipping, you may have worn out agitator dogs. Yes, there is such a thing. These are small plastic clips that act in the manner of a clutch for the agitator. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r823955-replacing_agitator_dogs

The link also explains how to remove the agitator. If you require addtional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

SOURCE: replacing the agitator dogs in a Kenmore 80 series washer

Hi, Remove the cap on the agitator and then remove the inside cover. There is a 7/16" bolt under the inside cover. Remove the bolt and the agitator will lift out. Seperate the 2 pieces of the agitator and replace the dogs. You might have to use a flat blade screw drive and punch out the 4 tabs around the bolt hole in the agitator if this applies.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

SOURCE: 80 series model 23822100 will agitate but won't

If the washer fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle and drain, this is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. Just use your model number as your search criteria. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all them for the best price.

NOTE: There is no need to drain the washer to repair the lid switch. However, if you need to drain the washer to avoid having stagnant water in the tub, you can by-pass the lid switch. Use the steps provided to access the lid swtich. Unplug the switch and remove it from the washer. With the switch in your hand, cut the connector plug off leaving about two inches of wire. Cut the center conductor (green wire) off flush with the plug. Take the two black wires and crimp them together and insulate with some electrical tape, or use a wire lug. You now have made yourself a by-pass plug. Plug this back into the timer plug and you have now by-passed the lid switch.

NOTE: This is to only be used as a TEMPORARY means of operating the washer and not as a permanent fix. The lid switch is installed as a safety feature to stop the washer motion when the lid is opened. Without it, you will not be able to stop the washer unless you push the timer knob in. Make sure you replace the lid switch.

If you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Series 80 Agitator top dosent work

If the bottom agitates and not the top, the problem is likely the 4 "agitator dogs" designed to allow the top agitator to turn only one way.

I assume that your model number starts with a 110 instead of 100.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.26842692

Look at the section on the Sears site for Agitator, basket and tub.

See the part "Dog, agitator "

Remove the fabric softener unit, lift the top agitator cap (use a screwdriver) and you should see a plastic part in the center of the top agitator with a 1/2" square drive.

Remove the drive and lift off the top agitator. Turning it over you should see the 4 "dogs", replace these and the top agitator should turn in one direction only.

Replace the 1/2" drive, the cap and fabric softener unit and the top agitator should work.

Following is an illustrated description of the above.

Kenmore series 80 washer: does not twist in the middle

Check the agitator by turning it back and forth. It should work like a ratchet (turns one way, locks the other way).If you're able to turn it in both directions, the agitator dogs are worn and need to be replaced.
Remove the agitator cap and the bolt that holds down the agitator. With the bolt out you can remove the top section of the agitator (auger) where you should see 4 small white or beige plastic gears (dogs). Replace those and it should be ok.
