We had a power failure and now our Lexmark 2391 dot matrix printer will not print from the top of the page. i need to know how to setup/reconfigure the top of the page? thank you

  1. Push the ALT button and then the PARK LOAD button to back the paper out.
  2. Push the PARK LOAD button to reload the paper. The Ready light should now be blinking.
  3. Use the MICRO up or down buttons to adjust as needed, making sure that the top of form is set on the very first page that enters the printer. Typically, the top edge of the first sheet of paper should be even with the ribbon.
  4. When the page is lined up properly, press the START/STOP button. The printer will record the current position as the top of form and then feed paper to the tear off position.
  5. Use the MICRO up and down buttons to place the top of the paper at the tear off bar.
  6. After the tear off is positioned properly, press the START/STOP button twice to save the tear off position.
  7. Test the positions with a sample print job. If the alignment is still off, follow this entire procedure from the beginning again as needed.

Auto print head alignment wont work and I need to do a manual alignment. How do I do this for a MP970?

1. Make sure that the machine is turned on, and then load three sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the Rear Tray or Cassette. 2. Open the Paper Output Tray, and then open the Output Tray Extension. (1) Put your finger in the center of the top of the Paper Output Tray and open it gently. (2) Open the Output Tray Extension. 3. Press the Paper Feed Switch to select the paper source where you have loaded paper. 4. Print the print head alignment pattern. (A) Press the HOME button. (B) Select Settings , then press the OK button. (C) Select Maintenance , then press the OK button. (D) Select Manual head align , then press the OK button. (E) Select Yes , then press the OK button. (F) When " Did the patterns print correctly? " is displayed, confirm that the pattern is printed correctly, select Yes , then press the OK button. The input screen for the head position adjustment values is displayed.
Note:If you select Head alignment print, the machine exits the process after printing the current head position adjustment values.
5. Look at the first printout, and then adjust the print head position. (A) Check the printed patterns, and use the or button to input the number of the pattern in column A that has the least noticeable vertical streaks. (B) Repeat the same procedure until you finish i nputting the pattern number for columns B to F, then press the OK button. (C) Confirm the displayed message and press the OK button.
Note: If it is difficult to pick the best pattern, pick the setting that produces the least noticeable vertical white streaks.
6. Look at the second printout, and then adjust the print head position. (A) Check the printed patterns, and use the or button to input the number of the pattern in column G that has the least noticeable vertical streaks. (B) Repeat the same procedure until you finish inputting the pattern number for columns H to K, then press the OK button. For column K, the best pattern will be smooth and have no streaks in the border indicated by the arrow. (C) Confirm the displayed message and press the OK button.
7. Look at the third printout, and then adjust the print head position. Check the printed patterns, and use the or button to input the number of the pattern in columns L and M that has the least noticeable horizontal streaks, then press the OK button.

I am trying to print onto pre-printed forms which have a dark blue band at the top. My printer isn't recognising that the band is there so is starting to print too far down the page. Help please!

This type of problem can usually be resolved simply by adjusting the margins from within your word processing program. Depending on which word processor you are using you can go into the page setup and make these changes. For Microsoft Word go to the "File" tab at the top then to page setup. The first tab that comes up will allow you to change the margins on the page. If the print is too far down try reducing the top margin from one inch to 0.5. If that is not enough reduce it some more. Print test pages on regular paper, then hold them up to the light against the paper with the pre-printed band to see how the print lines up. That way you don't waste the expensive paper!

There is no easy way. You need to adjust starting position for every form. There is fine feed function and Top Of Form setting procedure, so you can adjust the minimum space between top of porm and first printed string (user's guide explains in details how to do it). But after that you need to decide whether you manually set the start position by rotating the knob or play with your application to adjust margins etc.

Printer setup

Continuous forms paper fed through the front of the printer also uses either the Front Push, Rear Pull, or Push-Pull tractor configurations. Make sure this is set correctly or it will reverse your margins.

It could also be your software. When you print through windows it's using the Microsoft system font controller, but your software could be setting font, margins, and alignment by the settings in the printer not in the driver. So if the first doesn't work, set your system back to align left then go into the printer configuration menu on the device and adjust the margins there.

Printer is not aligning paper properly.

Please try the following to resolved that issue:

1. Make sure the printer is turned on and the desired tractor is selected (the corresponding tractor arrow should be lit).
2. Open the upper cover.
3. Press the Top of Form button to enter top-of-form mode. The printer beeps once, and the Top of Form light turns on.
4. Use the Micro Feed buttons to feed the paper to the desired top-of-form position. The “A” on the ribbon protector shows you where the bottom edge of your first line of text will print. This position is based on the first printable line of text. If your software inserts a top margin of five lines, your text will actually print five lines below the top-of-form position.
5. Press the Top of Form button again to exit and save your new top-of-form position. Then close the top cover.
