Good day,
The high and low temperature range for a domestic refrigerator is 55 and 95 degrees. Above and below that issues will appear.
Above 95 degrees the compressor will be taxed badly, and will obviously shorten it's life.
Below 55 degrees it will not run enough to keep the freezer at decent temperatures, and because it stays off long periods of time, the oil in the compresser sump will thicken, making compressor starting difficult and once again shortening it's life.

It's done all the time but there is a cost long term.

This is in the garage and now it has come cold the freezer part has defrosted ?

Remember that the control is intended to keep the interior temperature of the refrigerator section at approximately 36F-40F for normal operation. If the garage temperature falls below this point the Refrigerator won't run again until Spring, or whenever the garage temperatures rise above the normal range for a long enough period of time. If you have sustained periods where you garage is below 40F it's likely you will Freeze everything in the refrigerator and break glass containers while The Freezer will be TOO warm.

This unit will not work properly where outside temperatures remain below 36F for extended periods of time.

Sears/Kenmore (Canada) Model# 970-681821 . Anyone know manufacture date and if there is an Owners Manual available?

Hello Anna Dee;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

What a run around! Look on the inside of the fresh food section of your refrigerator. There is a label on the wall near the top. The date of manufacturer is on the label. Also the correct model number. Send me the model number.

What is the problem? Refrigerators are not designed to operate in a garage. If you purchase a new unit and it was under warrantee, the warrantee would be voided if it were operating in a garage.

I was a Sears field service technician. I have never heard of a garage heater kit.

Sorry, you got the run around. The customer service people are under trained, and the telephone technical personal have never spent a day in the field.

Does ref-frezer have problems by being in the garage all year rou

Temperatures should not go below 40°F or hotter than 100°F for proper operation. If temperatures are lower than 40°F your thermostat may not allow the product to turn on based on colder than normal temperatures. The warmer the ambient temperature is (above 100°F) the more the product will run, and it will be less efficient.

Refrigerator/freezer in garage not freezing

Most refrigerator Manufactures have tested these machines in hot and cold weather and weather will effect operation and electricity consuption.
As far as cold weather goes It would run much better in cold weather than hot. As far as it being in the garage : It will wear on it faster. The humidity is not good on them and they get more dirt through the system and will need its normal mantenance more often. not to mention bugs and rodents like to find a warm place to hid with fee dinking water and a refrigerator provides that for them.

I keep my frigidare in garage even during winter time. When temperature drops to 3 degrees Celsius my frigidare stops working. Does anybody know what can I do to make frigidare to work and keep it in...

I know the minimum operating temp for many refrigerators is around 33 F (about a degree above freezing or so). This is due to the refrigerant gas within the compressor and the fact that it is not stable at low temps. Typically, a refrigerator's minimum ambient temp should be 50 degrees F (10 degrees C).

I don't know if there is a whole lot you can do. The refrigerator really wasn't built to work in such cold weather. You may either have to relocate it, put a heat source near it or look into a special freezer that is *supposedly* able to operate in much colder ambient temps.

GARAGE FRIDGE STILL TRIPPING THE GFCI ....WHY?

If your frig is plugged directly into a GFCI, you need to remove the GFCI and replace it with a standard plug. No one should have a GFCi behind a refrigerator.
