Question about D-Link DIR-625 (790069292637) Wireless Router

1 Answer

I have a D-Link 625 wireless router connected to my cable modem. It was set up with WPA-Personal security and worked fine for about a year. All of a sudden, none of the computers in the house see the wireless network. I have tried disabling wireless, (on the router) rebooting and re-enabling it. Yes, it does say "visible." The wired ports work just fine. I have tried changing it to "open" with no security. Are there any diagnostics to run on the router to find out why it isn't broadcasting its SSID? In the mean time, we are connecting to our neighbor's wireless (so we know that there is nothing wrong with any of the computers). Thanks, Julie

I tried everything suggested, but it still doesn't work. I think I am dealing with defective hardware.

I would reset the router to factory settings and go from there. Also if you know the SSID you can input those settings in case it has been set to not broadcast. It is also possible there is a defect in the router. Also if you haven't already you may want to try and update the firmware, it's available at dlinks website.
Thank you,
Lee

    Lee,
Thanks for responding. My firmware is 1.09 which (acc'd to D-link) is the most current. I tried resetting the router, but still do not see it (even with its new name "dlink") I also tried manually connecting to it by putting in the SSID name.Still nothing.

I'm guessing that the wireless no longer works. What is frustrating is that there are no diagnostics or indications on the router itself to let me know that it doesn't work anymore. The wireless light on the router itself is on and when I log into it (wired) it says that the wireless is on and running just fine. Obviously, the wired part works fine (or I couldn't be on the Internet right now.)

    Thanks,
    Julie

Set you router to WPA security:
For this DIR-625 router if the encryption is set to WEP it could only give up to 54mbps wireless connection. If it is set to WPA it can give up more than 100mbps wireless connection, but it depends if the wireless adapter in the computer is also a Draft N adapter. Its a backward compatibility.

I want to put a code to prevent other people using my internet

Please reset your Router or Modem-Router to factory defaults by keeping the reset button pressed for 10 seconds while the router is powered. Then, connect the router to the modem, and connect a computer to the router with an Ethernet cable. Run the Setup Assistant on this computer. The software is not strictly required to configure the Router or Modem-Router, you can also use the built-in web based configuration tool on http://192.168.2.1.

Then in the user interface find BASIC.From there in th Wireless Network Name put a name for your network. There are three wireless security modes, including WEP, WPA-Personal, and WPA-Enterprise. WEP is the original wireless encryption standard. WPA provides a higher level of security.Use WPA-Personal and in the Pre-Shared Key :use a strong mix key.

My neighbor is connecting to my router,Iwould like to stop him

For wireless security:
You need to login to your modem and add security, so that you can connect and your neighbour cannot. Unless you have changed your login details, look at the back or underneath your modem. It should tell you what your defualt login is and how to get to it. You normally access your modem using a web browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox etc.) and typing in the address e.g. 192.158.0.1 in the top/address line.
Then you will be prompted for a username and password (see what the sticker on the modem says, e.g. admin and password.
Once inside that menu, look for WLAN or Wireless settings. You can then setup security e.g. WEP or WPA and some other options. Set the security to WPA and choose a password that you can remember. Once you have chosen Done/Apply/OK or similar, you will probably lose your connection. If you then choose your wireless, you will be prompted to enter a password.

The other alternative is, if you have a desktop connected by ethernet to the modem and don't need wireless, you can go into the same menu and switch wireless off.

I set up my d-link dr615 with my pc. Seems fine.

Hi, you need to make sure that the wireless AP is enabled on the setup. Switch your laptop wireless on and see if you can detect the wireless network as available. You now need to click on the the network and click on connect. If your router is configured with WEP/WPA security you will be prompted for the security key. If you don't know what this is you can change it in the router configuration.

Can't seem to change security level

You have a d-link 625 range booster? if i am not mistaken the most secured level encryption is WPA2.. MOST apple ipod touch does not support WPA2 encryption, most only support WPA encryption.. try setting your security level to Medium or lower your encryption to WPA.  If it still does not work, try the Lowest Encryption.
if this does not help, try using WEP
