Question about Ricoh Aficio 2232C Color Copier

1 Answer

Our Ricoh 2228C copier/fax/scanner suddenly started sending faxes such that the recipient gets the image rotated from portrait to landscape and reduced to the left half the page (booklet style?). Don't know how it changed and can't find any settings on the control panel to restore to the way it was. Any ideas?

Epson scanner gts50 orientation is set to portrait but scans landscape

It may show as landscape on the screen but printer properties will have to be set to landscape if you want to print that way, the rotation is not automatically controlled.

Need instructions on how to send fax, it seem as though we are not following the correct steps

Solution: Sending faxes on an MX310

Sending Faxes

The operation flow of sending faxes is as follows.

  1. Load the original on the platen glass or on the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).

    Platen Glass

    1. Lift the document cover (1).
    2. Place the original in landscape orientation and align the upper corner of it with the alignment mark (2) as shown in the figure below.

      t_00712.jpg
    3. Gently close the document cover.
ADF
  1. Remove any documents from the Platen Glass.
  2. Open the Document Tray.

  4. Adjust the Document Guides to match the document width.

    t_01115.jpg

  1. Press the button.

  2. Adjust fax settings as necessary.

  3. Start faxing.

    1. Dial the recipient's number using the numeric buttons or coded speed dialing.

    2. Press the button for color sending, or the button for black & white sending.

Note: Color sending is available only when the recipient's fax machine supports color faxing.

    3. If the document was loaded on the Platen Glass, the following message will appear. Load the next page on the Platen Glass.

    4. If you have only one page of document to scan, go to step 5.

    5. Press the same button as you pressed in step 4b.

    6. Repeat steps 4c through 4e until all pages of the document have been scanned in and then go to step 5.

  4. Press the button.

  5. To cancel sending a fax, press the button. To cancel sending a fax while it is being sent, press the button, then follow the instructions on the LCD.

Adjusting the Scan Contrast or the Image Quality (Fax Resolution)
Adjusting the Scan Contrast

Contrast is the degree of difference between light and dark. Increasing the scan contrast setting further blackens dark areas and whitens bright areas, whereas decreasing the contrast setting reduces the difference between bright and dark areas. You can adjust the contrast among three contrast levels.

  1. Press the button.

  2. Press the button.

  3. Press the (left) or (right) button to select the contrast.

    ug_faxing87.jpg

  4. Pressing the l_mark.jpg (left) button decreases the contrast, and pressing the r_mark.jpg (right) button increases the contrast.

  5. Press the button.

Adjusting the Image Quality (Fax Resolution)

You can adjust the image quality (fax resolution) of the document you send. The higher you set the image quality setting, the better the output quality will be at the other end, but the longer it will take for the transmission. Adjust the image quality according to the type of document you are sending.

  1. Press the button.

  2. Press the button two times.

  3. Press the l_mark.jpg (left) or r_mark.jpg (right) button to select the resolution.

  3. Press the button for color sending, or the button for black & white sending.

    Note:
    *
Color sending is available only when the recipient's fax machine supports color faxing.
    * To cancel sending a fax, press the Stop/Reset button. To cancel sending a fax while it is being sent, press the Stop/Reset button, then follow the instructions on the LCD.

When I send a fax, the recipient gets all dark or black sheet. Thinking this was the recipients problem, I faxed again to a different fax number, same thing happened.

To fix the problem you have to check the scanner of your fax machine. It might not be functioning properly. Try to observe the fax machine while sending a document, look at the scanner section and see if the light of the scanner is turned on or lighted. If it's no longer lighted you have to replace it.

Image on fax send report is set to off how do i change it to on so that i can fax out

The Fax report only tells you if the fax went through or not. The image on a fax report lets you quickly check the first page of the documents that were faxed (or supposed to be faxed). To get the image on the fax report, press Setup > Fax Confirmation > On Fax Send. Then select On for Image on Fax Send Report.

What you need is to test that your machine can send a fax. Make sure that the unit is installed correctly. Use the phone cord or adapter that came with the unit between the appropriate wall jack (on PBX systems for example) and the 1-Line jack. See the User's Guide if the phone is shared (voicemail, computer modem, answering machine). To test the unit, press Setup button on the Control Panel (the icon looks like an open end wrench). Choose Tools and Run Fax Test. This will check if the machine has a dial tone and can send information on the phone line. Use that information to troubleshoot the issue. For a hardware failure, cycle the power (turn off and unplug the unit) and check if there is a dial tone (I like an old corded phone for this test). If at all possible, if the test fax is unsuccessful due to a dial tone problem, disconnect all other devices on the phone line and retest. Then reconnect them one at a time to see which may be involved in the failure. Check that you are on an analog phone line.

Once you get a successful test fax, load your original (face down on the scanner glass or face up in an ADF). To fax from the all-in-one, enter the recipient's fax number with the keypad then press Start Fax black (or color as needed). (If the recipient gets poor print quality, adjust the scan resolution. This is under Options after you press Fax and then enter the destination number. This method also lets you chose when to send a fax.)

After you get the fax to work directly from the all-in-one, then you can set up the HP Solutions to fax from the computer.

I hope this helps.

How does the 1210 scanner work with Windows 7? I have downloaded the driver for the printer and it works ok, but I cannot use the software for the printer. The copier and the scanner work, but i cannot...

You will have to do a two step process to send a scanned document or image by email; the scan to e-mail button won't work. Scan using either Windows Fax and Scan or Paint. Save your file. Then start (Compose/Write) an e-mail to the person you need to send the document. Click Attach and browse to the location where the scan was saved. The default folder is C:/Users/<user_name>/My Documents/Scanned Documents . Click OK after selecting that image. Finish writing your e-mail and send it.

If you'd like to automatically open the e-mail program, browse to the folder where you saved the fax from Computer (Start button) and right click on the image. Choose Send to Mail Recipient. The new mail compose window should open.

I hope this helps.

(a program like PaperPort may let you send to e-mail recipient without the extra step; however I'm not sure of the details.)

When i send a fax from my Canon L90 the receiver is getting it in landscape mode.

Have the receiver set their paper to portrait. 8 1/2 x 11. Their machine should be able to figure this stuff automatically.

Dual sided scanning - how?

From the scan section, chose your recipient(s) first.
Then go to Image Settings > Auto/Original >
Choose 2-sided booklet or tablet, choose portrait or landscape orientation. Then scan as usual.

I believe you can also make this a default under System
Settings > [Admin Login] > Image Send Settings

FAX TRANSMISSION

I have had this issue as well faxing to any area code in general outside of my own. The only thing I found to work was manual faxing. This comes from the manual.

Dial manually from the handset
1. Load the document into the ADF.
2. Call the recipient on the handset.
3. When the recipient is ready(when you hear the fax sound), press Start Fax on the product control panel.
