Question about Powerware Best Power Fortress UPS System

1 Answer

Unit = Best Power UPS Model ME1.4kVA How do I reset the com port back to 1200 baud. Pramiter 78 was changed from 2)1200 to 3) should have been 2400 baud, and now no communications at all, not on 1200 or 2400 baud. How do I fix this? Is there a reset that will take it back to 1200 baud? I have a PDF of all pramitors before the change was made. Note: I have downloaded all the manuals I could get from Eaton (the new oner of Best Power) no svc manual for the ME 1.4kVA but plenty for the FE, not all facts line up.

It took such a long time to get an answer here that I had forgotten all about leaving a question.

However I have found the solution to this problem and I believe I should share it with anyone else who might be stuck.

The problem was that the baud rate of the UPSs internal modem had shifted out of the range of my communication software (1200, 2400, 9600, etc.) and this was truly the problem. I regained communications with the power unit by digging up an old manual for the ME 1.4 KVA UPS system from eaton.com (and this was not the exact one for my system) there are a few differences in the units, but in its pages I found a helpful communications program written in BASIC. Copying the basics of this program and altering the code I rebuilt the program to suit my needs. I added into the program a baud rate display and a loop into the code that would reset the modem, step the baud rate by 10 and reinitialized the modem each time the program it did not get the customary response "=>" Echo from the unit.

Starting the program at 10 and it took about an hour to reestablish contact. I can't remember right off what the baud rate turned out to be but I believe it was 9610. Now that communications was reestablished with the UPS again, it was easy to change the parameter 76 back to 2. After making this change the baud rate has now been changed back to 1200 baud and my normal communication software works again.

APC Back-UPS ES500. Battery is new replacement UB1280, and battery has charge and runs fine if unit not plugged in. However, if unit is plugged in to power back-up side outlets in unit don't work.

there are 2 parts of a UPS .
the charge side
and (battery is obvious)
the inverter side.
if the charger fails, all is lost. (are the batteries in backwards?)
if the charger works (volt meter tells you that)
then the inverter is bad. (this unit is not full time UPS , but part time, this means it switches over to inverter at power fail.
(on full time sys. inverter runs full time, like the name states)
the unit, you mean the load right.?
the UPS side plugged into a load. and the load is now dead.

the Backup plugs should work if the mains are hot.
if you kill mains, the inverter will fire off, (hear the squeal?)
and give you 500 watts for some minutes, sucking the batteries dry. (see load run time curves)
I used to do service on HUGE UPS systems, some with 100s of batteries. 3 to 5kw too.
on ours there is a port on the rear , we connect and can
check everything "BEST brand" even charge voltage.
did you look on APC site for special software and connections?

the manual does cover trouble shooting, ever read that?
RTM? start there, its online, for sure.

Unplug your UPS from the wall. Disconnect the batteries. Push the on button. LED's may flash. This is how to reset the logic. Connect the batteries and plug back in. Everything should be reset.

I had an alarm on 9390 which read : "Battery Test Fail". What would possibly cause it and how would I best prevent it from reoccuring.

This error indicates that the battery packs are no longer able to supply the expected run time or load capacity that the UPS needs. The batteries will need to be replaced.

I have cisco 1841 router stuck at Rommon> only IOS is ok,but still in this mode/.

what shows the following?

dir flash: If IOS is ok the follow the below step The router will guide you through changing the registry. You want to press y to chang the configuration. The only other change you need to make is the change to the console baud rate, set that to 7 (115200).

enable "diagnostic mode"? y/n [n]:
enable "use net in IP bcast address"? y/n [n]:

3. When you reset the router in your console window you will see characters that you cannot read. You have to stop the session and set your baud rate to 115200. This will let you increase the speed that you use to transfer the file.
4. At the rommon prompt enter xmodem -c {filename}
5. When prompted, enter y to continue
6. From your hyperterminal prompt, click on transfter then send file
7. Select the IOS image then change the protocol to xmodem via the dropdown box then click send.
8. After the IOS has been downloaded, change the boot order by using the confreg 0x2102 command.

No valid GPS signal for two days, what I can do?

You can try a reset Check in the manual where the reset hole is i thinlk this model is under the scfreen surround which is removable.

This will take ut back to factory settings, you might want to check if its set to the right PORT and BAUD try this

GPS Program Port: COM1
GPS Hardware Port: COM9
Baud Rate: 4880
Manage GPS Automatically (Ticked)

Now other reasons are low battery= low signal//fully charge the battery

no signal from satellites= damaged SIIRF chip caused by plugging into car power when starting engine...needs new m/board

Maximum time to access 1-9 minutes max...

Please rate my help++++Thanks for using FIXYA...
