No sound in xp when xp is installed. My system is Everex Step Note SA series 2052T.In vista no problem

Sounds like a driver problem. Vista has more built in drivers than XP. This link should start the download of the driver for you.

http://www.fic.com.tw/everex//us/support/sa2053t/xp/audio.exe

It says the model is SA2053t, but the same drivers are used for the SA2052t

Computer has been formatted and new windows xp OS installed... How can I get drivers installed?

Your motherboard should come with a cd driver.. check the manufacturer of your motherboard. Or if not try to download it from the web, you should know the name of your board.

I have an everex gbook that came with the linux operating system and i took that off and installed windows xp. since i did that i have absolutely no sound. everyone is wanting to charge me $80 but i cant...

It is possible that you are missing the audio drivers for WinXP.
Right click on "My Computer" and choose "Manage".
Go down to "Device Manager" and look for "Sound, video, and game controllers".
See if any of the items listed has a yellow exclamation mark or red "x" next to it.
That's your culprit.
(A red "x" means that the device is disabled. Double-click on it and at the bottom of that window you can enable the device.)
Go to Everex' support page (here), choose your model and download the necessary driver(s).

If your specific model is not in the list, try something similar and download that driver - they are often identical or at least interchangeable.

New operating system

When starting the computer, you need to enter the boot menu or set the machine to boot from the CD drive before the hard drive in the bios or utilities set up. Once you've done this, be sure the disc is in the drive upon start up. Then follow the directions.Keep in mind that the XP disc may not have all of the drivers or your machine, so you will have to go to Everex's support site and download them. You can see which drivers you may need in the device manager. Also, when updating XP, only install service pack 2, do not install three, it has issues and is really not needed.

No audio sound and decreased hard drive storage

First check that your sound isn't muted or turned down way low in windows. Do this by clicking on the start button, then clicking RUN and typing 'mmsys.cpl' without the quotes to bring up your sound & audio properties. If there is a check next to mute click the check to remove it. Next click on the Audio tab along the top. Now under sound playback click the volume button to bring up the Volume control. Again make sure nothing is muted. Now the left slider is your main volume control so if thats really low pull the slider up a bit. I would put everything up on high and adjust down from there.
If theres still no sound then the next step would be to reinstall the sound drivers. You didn't post your exact model but you can find the drivers yourself on here http://www.everex.com/support/support.htm If you have any more questions just post and i'll get back to you.
