On most of the Pioneers you can program the channels by tuning to the station you want, then pressing and holding the number key you want it stored to.
you can seek to a station you like and then choose a preset button 1-6 . press the chosen preset button for a few seconds until the display blinks. the station should then be locked into that preset.
red is for accessory key power yellow is constant memory power black is ground blue is remote white is left front positive and white with black is negative,right front gray is positive and gray black is negative,left rear green is positive and green black is negative,right rear violet is positive and violet black is negative.

It sounds like you have a positive and negitive touching each other or one wire is exposed and is touching metal. Pull it out of the dash and check you splice/connections.
stuck up voulume buttons. you need to open the head unit and locate that defective volume switch. sometimes these micro swtches can be opened up and cleaned. but this is requires really steady hands.
