Question about GE Dishwashers

GE Monogram ZBD6700GBB stops

Hello, have an evil dishwhasher which (regardless of cycle type) starts, prefils, and starts running. About a minute or so into the cycle it just stops. All LEDs blank out and there's a single beep. Opening the door, it's full of water -- and id does actually start washing. Clearing and starting again, firmly knocking on the touch panel assembly (I'm talking gentle knock, not beating it!) will kill it after a few knocks. I'm thinking it's either the control board or some other physical electrical connection issue but before I start uncrewing the thing and possibly $300 vanishes on a board I figured it's worth a shot asking if any of you have seen this problem.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

After well over a day with no subsequent reply, I would like another expert to look through this thread and offer further assistance. Thank you, Mike

Seems it has to be the control board after all. The only ribbon cable is between the control board and the smaller daughter board which the touch panel engages with. They are one piece (the ribbon is soldered). After removing them the problem got decidedly worse (the unit would hardly ever start unless I moved the board around just right), and i noticed one of the relays had serious carbon buildup. I cleaned all contacts to no avail. Ordering a new board today. $300 but at least now I'm reasonably convinced that is the real cuprit. Thanks for your help!

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. This issue can be either due to a faulty door latch or door lock switch which is not engaging itself. And, if the door latch will not engage the dishwasher will sense it as open door and will stop the cycle or not even start the cycle. If the door latch appears to be working fine then it seems to be an issue with the timer/control panel that has gone bad, they don’t often fail but if everything else is working fine then it is the Timer/control panel that has gone bad and needs to be replaced. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

    Hi Rylee,
Thanks for your response. How would I go about checking on the latch assembly? I've tried bending the frame side of the latch up and down in order to mess with its tension to no effect. If I were to take that all apart, would I be able to electrically bypass the switch (i.e. hotwire it) so that I can easily rule it out?

    A few more questions:

In looking at parts on this site...
    http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partse...
...is the switch the #66 lever microswitch? Would the #77 microswitch door be something that needs to be replaced as well? Is the #502 control board the timer controller that would likely be bad? Just trying to size up whether or not I'm opening a can of worms to the point I should either call in a professional, or start shopping for a new unit :).

    Regards,
    Mike

Dishwasher starts in any type of cycle, runs for a minute, then shuts off as the lights blink out.

in general your wash motor can cause that. It gets old and you can hear the wash motor making a rumbling noise when it turns on. The increased load with cause a thermal coupler to turn the unit off.

Push the white paddle in three times slowly within 15 seconds. Then wait 2 minutes. You should see the ice maker start to cycle. If the ice maker doesn't cycle, replace the ice maker. If you need a new ice maker, you can go to the link below

GE Monogram ZISW36DYA ... frozen ice-cycle rivulets run down both sides of freezer (water off for days to verify it is not ice maker) ... defrost control clicks when rotated and advances with time ... do...

Seems to me that might be a clogged defrost drain or maybe a dripping water valve. Doing that. I have the service manual with nice pictures in it that show clearly how to access the components.

Water overflowing in ice maker tray on a GE

make sure your refrigerator unit is level first . If it is , and you have eight square faced plastic cover on the front of the ice maker itself that can be removed by un- snapping it, remove it and see if there is a small screw with a spring underneath it or positive or negative arrow's on the unit where the screw is located. Regardless, if there is a screw all by itself turned the screw 1/2 turn Counterclockwise. this will decrease the amount of time the water valve is open during the ice bin filling cycle.
