Delete Norton. Its terrible and slows your machine down. Go to Start>Control Panel>Add/remove programs. And uninstall it.
Use AVG Antivirus instead, its free and much better.

Click "Install Norton AntiVirus" when the installation wizard opens. Click "Install Options" and click "Browse" if you want select a different location than the default for the program.

Norton trial version expired but not uninstalled

1. Yes, uninstall before installing any other antivirus program or security suite. Your computer (and you) will be happier.
2. Once you uninstall the trial version of Norton, go ahead and download One Care. I've heard some good things about it, but haven't used it personally or seen it installed on a client's computer.
3. Symantec/Norton has made improvements to their software uninstalls. If you have a newer version of Norton installed, it should cleanly uninstall from the Add/Remove programs area. If it's older, you may have issues getting it to uninstall - leaving remnants as you mentioned. Symantec has help removing their software completely on their support site if you need help.

Hope this helps! : )
