The PS3 3 Yellow Light of Death (YLOD) is a general error and can be one of many things.. Users have reported receiving a PS3 YLOD in the following ways, to name a few:
• Trying to install a game onto the HDD, harddrive failure YLOD.
• Power surge can be a possible cause of the YLOD.
• If the inside of your PS3 is very dusty it can cause a YLOD.

First you should check the consoles connections to the power outlet and TV. It's advisable to always plug your gaming console into a surge protector to keep it safe. A power surge can damage the PlayStation 3 and be the source of this problem in some cases. After you've verified the connections switch off the unit manually via the onboard switch in the back, disconnect all cables, and then remove the hard drive. After waiting ten minutes reattach the cables, hit the switch, and see if this solves your problem. If it does not then you have to take drastic measures to fix PS3 beeps. The reason that you would perform the above procedure is to essentially give the console a hard reset similar to a PC. If this does not fix PS3 beeps then your problem is most likely hardware related.

If you have a warranty right now would be the best time to use it, if you do not then you have nothing to lose. In order to determine which piece of hardware is causing the problem you have to either remove and or replace certain components. It can be destructive to fix PS3 beeps this way but it is a last resort. If the system attempts to boot then your power supply is fine, if it doesn't even get that far then you may want to replace your power supply to fix PS3 beeps.

Make sure to find the right model for your particular PS3. If your power is fine however then you need to disassemble the case and remove the Blu Ray drive, then carefully power the unit back on and see if this fixes the problem. If this doesn't work then most likely you're having a heat issue. Removing the heat sink and reapplying thermal grease to both the chips and the heat sink may fix the problem.

This involves disassembling the console completely. Once the console is reassembled properly try again. If the problem is not resolved you have a faulty temp sensor. This can be replaced if you have the time, skills, and patience. However it might be easier to just buy a new console.

In order to fix PS3 beeping you need to approach your PS3 with caution. Mindlessly tinkering about can be dangerous to both you and the console. If you fix PS3 beeps via any of these methods then take pride in what you have done. If not then don't feel bad - after all, technology isn't perfect.

PS3 Power Surge.

Get a surge protector for your most loved systems, that way the worst case scenario is you will need a cord replacement. Unplugging it when it's not in use may also cool it down.

PS3 won't come on at all! HELP!

Sounds like the electric shock short-circuited your PS3. Surge protectors are useful in that they reduce the energy of the power outage, but it isn't a 100% guarantee anything plugged into it will be protected. Sorry man, send it to Sony for repair.

It needs a new power supply. When the power came back on, most likely a surge damaged the power supply.

I buy mine at they run about $35 each.

60GB PS3 had been hit by a power surge. HDMI not working.

hook up the ps3 thru the regular yellow composite and HDMI. Go into the settings and change the output to HDMI and then see if you can get video thru the HDMI, if you don't then the mainboard is bad and you would have to send it to Sony unless you can get your hands on another broken sony ps3 with a good main board.

Surge protector shuts off while playing PS3

swap to another surge protector. if it still does it, it is a power surge at the outlet, if it does not, the Surge Proctector has worn out. have someone with the appropriate knowlege have a look at the outlet as well. older outlets especially tend to wear to the point where the plug literally falls out of the wall.

Playstation 3

I would blame the bulb blowing, especially if they were on the same electrical system. One way you could stop this from happening again is to have anything electronic (your ps3) on a surge protector, then if you would have a power surge or anything like that, the surge protector would fry and the electronics hooked to it would be fine. Rather pay 12 bucks for a surge protector than a couple hundred for electronics :)
