Hello, you can fix this by opening the back cover of the television to check for dry soldering, if found resolder, check for bulged capacitors, these are likely fault that do occur, but if otherwise ,
Power supply board have problems, just not dead yet.Replaced the power supply board, will solved this problems.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish power supply board for the replacement.
Hope you find this helpful....

This is a protection fault on the power supply. Possible reason is an overloaded line, happens all the time. We are gonna have to test the circuits to find the exact location of the problem so that we can perform a component level repair or you can just replace the power board. Let me know which of these paths you wanna take so that we can proceed accordingly.
PS: The tv holds potentially lethal voltages for several days after its turned off. I would advice that you get professional assistance to get it fixed if you do not have prior experience handling electronic circuits.

I have replaced the power board. Same issue. The TV is 3 months old, we had a small storm come through and the tv is the only thing that did not work. LG said it was a surge and not covered. I ordered a new power board and put it in today. Same red light, nothing else.

Ok.. How many times does it blink in between each pause? Do you still hear the click?

  • mbdygert Jul 13, 2010

it does not blink. When i plug it in it clicks.

See there is no self diagnostic error code. That means its definitely a power supply related issue. I hate to say this but it is possible that you either got a faulty replacement or you have left something unplugged. I have seen this a million times and I am damn sure that it is the power supply.

how do we test the power supply to see if its bad

You are gonna need a service manual that has a schematic of the component along with the voltages. Considering the fact that this is a relatively new model, I do not have one. You can get it from LG itself. They will probably give you a PDF version free of cost if you can send them a mail

Is there any other things we can check on this tv?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Jul 13, 2010

The service manual should have an explanation of what different LED states mean. For example solid red- IC xx blown, Blinks once 5V line overload etc., So once you get it we can first check the code(which is most likely to be power supply related) and proceed accordingly. Let me know as soon as you get it and I will see you through this.

    Sai.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. These kinds of issues in plasmas usually occur after 3-4years. A plasma TV is a very hard working device. From what you have described it seems to be an issue with the power supply board which is the board where all the power cords plugs into. It is working harder than any TV that has been built before, and as a result it produces a lot of heat. 75% of technical problems in plasma TV's are caused by overheating problems. You’ll need to check the power supply board first for any swollen/bulged capacitors. As power supply board is the hardest working board in a plasma TV, it develops voltage to supply all components, high current + high voltage. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise & know how to solder/re-solder components as these units contain high voltages even when switched off. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Won't power on

Sounds like a Zenith or LG TV. It is most probably the Y board, when you hear the clicking sound is usually that. I am sharing this with you because it happened to me with a Zenith (POS). The red light (on my TV) is in the bottom right corner. In my case it was the Y Board. Best of luck

My LG TV red light won't turn on. although the plug fuse and the remote OK

Try manually pressing the power/standby button on the tv (side or bottom) the red light should appear, most modern tv's will turn on simply by pressing the channel up or down on the tv itself.. But unfortunately in most cases, this seems to be an internal surge and needs a professional to inspect..
