Question about Toshiba Satellite A100-S8111TD Notebook

1 Answer

I have 2, HDD's that ran Win9_ OS, can the data now be transfered

I have two, HDD's from my older computers that ran windows 95, and windows 98. (Toshiba laptop and Gateway Tower) I would like to retrieve / transfer the digital pictures, data and word files on to a 8 Gig thumb drive.
Is this an easy project to be done at home or do I need to find a Guru?
Can this be done without re-inventing the wheel?

This is not that difficult if you have a desktop. You can add the drives as secondary devices and then transfer your data. There are two types of drives IDE or SATA. You will have to confirm which type they are and if your motherboard in the desktop supports them. If you need additional help post back and I can guide you further.

If this post was helpful please rate the solution.

Thanks, Gary

I have an error code HDD ERR

When your HDD (Hard Disk Drive) does not work, the computer would like a recovery disk, or with windows the Windows disk will do. If only the OS has some damage windows will see so and ask, should I recover the OS already on the HDD. If you choose that opting, the CD will try to recover everything.
If your HDD is really defect and can't be recovered by the OS, toy have to replace the drive and setup the computer again. You have lost all data and all program m's on the HDD, so I hope you have a backup of at least all your data.

Good luck

Cannot install MGI PhotoSuite4 on a computer running Windows 7 OS

The PhotoSuite 4 program is very old and won't work under Windows 7. http://sonic.net/mnitepub/pccafe/reviews/photosuite4/photosuite4.html says that the version 4 Platinum edition ran under Win95-Win2000 versions of the Windows OS. Thus even the compatibility mode probably won't help under Windows 7 32-bit. You can try it though by right clicking on the installer and then selecting Properties. In the Compatibility Mode tab, select Always Run this program in the compatibility mode and an older version of Windows. Then right click again and choose Run as Administrator. (You may have to do this again on the program itself.) Since Win7 64-bit requires signed drivers or programs, it is not as likely to work. (Check your version of Windows 7 by clicking Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System. If the title of your OS ends with x64, you have the 64-bit OS. Otherwise, you have the 32-bit OS.)

If you have Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate (or upgrade to one of those versions), you can run a virtual version of XP for free. Download and install Microsoft's Virtual PC and then XP mode (in order). This works best if your CPU supports virtualization and you enable the feature in your computer's BIOS. (There are work-arounds for computers without virtualization. See the MS support pages.) Install your PhotoSuite inside the virtual XP program in that case. This old software may run in that case. (However, I've had some Win2K software that ran under XP with the compatibility mode but didn't run under the virtual XP. Note: virtual computers do have some additional limitations. They do not talk to the host hard drive and other hardware directly. (You can install a printer on the host machine or the virtual machine but not both.) You'll need to save files on external media (flash drive, optical disc or other hard drive) to transfer them between the machines).

Another option is to run an older version of Windows on another computer, as a dual boot computer or with Virtual PC (or another virtual computer package - VMWare or Parallels). In that case, you need a licensed version of the older Windows OS. Again install the program while running the older OS.

The final option is to upgrade to a Windows 7 compatible Photo editor and organizer. (Even the Microsoft Windows Live Photo Gallery has some of the features of Photosuite SE.)

I hope this helps.

You may have a bad sector where the OS resides on the drive. Download what is called a low-level formatter. This software is designed to lay down the actual tracks where data is stored. It is different that formatting with the OS. This will put the drive back to the original unformatted condition. After you do the low-level format, you will need to format the drive again with whatever version of OS you use.

Why cant i transfer any information from my macbook to the hard drive? It says it can only read the drive.

You might have formatted your HDD to NTFS. There are two types of format that can be done on Windows OS one is NTFS which can only be read/write on Windows OS and FAT32 which would allow you to work with both Mac and Windows OS. You may want to reformat your HDD on a Windows based PC as FAT32 before working with your Mac. If it is a USB HDD you may just simply go to My Computer then right click on the drive letter assigned to the HDD then select "format" option.

Error code 0f00:0244 during hard drive diagnotic test

problem caused by microsoft,

take to dell and demand the hdd be replaced with a new PE windows xp installation.

if they refuse to do this, consult legal advice as the problem is caused by dell and microsoft transfering and manipulating data between the os and the bios via the ntfs file system (recovery) and the hal.dll file.

problem exists because: ntfs file system can manipulate data sent and recovered to the bios, if for instance your dell laptop etc shut down due to low battery then the bios data and the os data would be out of sync, therfore the operating system would render the previous sector that held the data on the hdd as a 'bad' sector and would then use another 'good' sector to transfer data between os and bios at startup and shut down.

as soon as all good sectors have been used, the bios and the operating system will be out of sync and the hal.dll file or the ntfs file system would not allow the operating system to boot because of the data lapse.

demand a new hdd from dell with their OEM PE windows xp installed, if they refuse, then sew them for damaging your hdd by using a virus type file system (virus is how it works, so in release notes on most websites refer to this) which corrupted your hdd's life expectancy.

chalenge microsoft and dell to refute your alegation in court, after all your claim will make them want to settle out of court instantly...

good luck, and don't be afraid of the challenge against microsoft or dell, as a consumer you have rights and your rights are what is at the interest of the law........

C-150 OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

By connecting the camera to a computer with the provided USB cable,
images on a card can be transferred to the computer. Some OS's (operating
systems) may need a special setup when connecting to the camera for the
first time. Follow the chart below. For details on the procedures in the chart,
refer to the “Reference Manual” on the CD-ROM and the “Software
Installation Guide” (included in the CD-ROM package).
Identifying the OS
Windows 98/98 SE
(Second Edition)
Windows 2000
Professional/Me/XP
Mac OS 9.0 - 9.1/OS X
*OS 8.6: See below.

Connecting the camera to a computer using the provided USB cable
Installing the USB
driver for Windows 98
Confirming the computer recognizes the camera
Downloading image files
Disconnecting the USB cable

Even if your computer has a USB connector, data transfer may not function correctly if
you are using one of the operating systems listed below or if you have an add-on USB
connector (extension card, etc.).
● Windows 95/NT 4.0
● Windows 98/98 SE upgrade from Windows 95
● Mac OS 8.6 or lower (except Mac OS 8.6 equipped with USB MASS Storage support
1.3.5 installed at the factory)
● Data transfer is not guaranteed on a home-built PC system or PCs with no factory
installed OS.
You can view images using: graphics applications that support the JPEG
file format (Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, etc.); Internet browsers (Netscape
Communicator, Microsoft Internet Explorer, etc.); CAMEDIA Master
software; or other software. For details on using commercial graphics
applications, refer to their instruction manuals.
