Question about Toshiba 62HMX84 62" Rear Projection HDTV
When I turn on my tvthe red& green light on the front of the tv is on but the tv is noton what can be wrong?
I have a 62HM84 and had the same problem with no picture and the blinking red and green lights on the front, then the tv turns off. read the above and bought a lamp and ballast from conn's appliance online. the lamp is easy to replace, 2 screws and slide out then slide the new one in from the side panel. But the ballast was the problem, not the lamp.
keep track of your screws and how things went together. i did not still not sure about one piece. you do not have to cut anything to get to the ballast, but it is a pain. you have to take off the entire back panel on the lower part of the tv. unscrew the metal support bar (flat). unscrew the other screws on the bottom. they are connect to a rolling metal tray that all of the exposed parts are sitting on. before pulling tray out, there is a black plastic piece on the left side that is in the way. unloop the wires around the hooks and unscrew the one screw. there is still one fat wire that is connected on the left side that i could not figure out how to disconnect so the tray did not come all the way out. double check for other wires that may prevent the tray from moving. i think there is another on the right side.
to get to the ballast, it is on the right side, as far back as you can reach. to get it out, unscrew the brown electrical connector from the side door opening. pull the out from around the metal shield as best you can. unplug the other two wires from the ballast. there are 4 plastic hinges on the corner of the ballast, push back to pull the ballast out. just do the reverse to get the new ballast back in and the tv back together. had a very hard time trying to get the new brown electrical plug back in. everything worked fine once i put it all back together.
