I can provide with a link to instructions for leveling a Craftsman Lawn Tractor 42" deck:

www.searspartsdirect.com

Type in Model # for your tractor (if it is a Craftsman)...if not use the model # for a certain Sears 42" tractor which is: 917.272672

There will be an option on the right side of the page to download (for free) an operators MANUAL and inside that are detailed directions for leveling a riding mower's deck.

There should be an adjustment on both sides of the deck. Move the nut up or down to raise of lower it.

Yardman 38" 7160 the deck belt is loose

Have you been mowing high grass, and how long has the belt been on? if you have mowed tall grass or belt is older than 2 years old it needs replaced, most don't realize how much a belt stretches from mowing tall grass. I hope this has been helpful.

I was mowing in thick grass and my ride on mower stopped. If I try to restart I can hear and feel the motor trying but it just wont get going.

You probably hit something unseen. First check under you deck to be sure a stick or something isnt wedged in there. Check your belt and pulleys on top of the deck.
Im tempted to say check the flywheel key or adjust the valve lash.

Mower dies if you put in reverse while blades are engaged

These mowers are designed to do that, so that you don't accidentally back over a pet or kid while the blades are turning. My Bolens 38" has a key setting for reverse mowing, you have to trun the key to that position in order to bypass the safety swith for reverse.

Mowes unevenly. Blades don't match up.

make sure when you replaced the spindles that you used all the washers and spacer bushings back identical to the ones you took off.
Make sure your deck isnt bent for some reason where the spindles mount and or the deck itself
level the deck when its on the mower on a level suface, side to side(level) back to front the back just a little higher than the front 3/8 inch or less
proper air pressure in all 4 tires
Also you could add a washer or take away a waher to allow the blades to become level at mid point meeting?
be sure to torque the blade bolts to 35 ft.lbs also
