Question about Apple MacBook Mac Notebook

I have a dvd that will not play in my apple laptop. I had inadvertantly put the two shiny sides of the dvd's together and wondered if I somehow disabled the dvd's.

If other DVDs play OK on your laptop, then the problem is not in your laptop. If no DVDs play on your laptop, then the problem is in the optical drive.
It usually takes more to scratch a DVD than placing it next to some other DVD.

I have seen this problem before...
It was solved by getting a super-thick permanent marker, and colouring in the entire top surface. Apparently the top surface had become scratched and was causing problems for the laser on the underside. Make sure it's a permanent marker or the ink will rub off inside the drive.

DVD player will not play a standard DVD after playing a Netflix movie

Could be a region setting issue. Go to DVD preferences and restore defaults. Try running your standard DVD from an outboard player and see if it works. Check your region setting- should be Region 1 for American DVDs. Any error messages?

Muffled Voices on Dolby DVD Playback

Most voices come out of the centre channel. Put your ear to that to see if it is working. If it is not then you might have somehow managed to switch it off. Check the cable connections to the speaker also.

Delete key on macbook pro won't work

you may have inadvertently set up a keyboard short cut on the delete key... go to your system preference app in the dock. Then select keyboard shortcuts... if you select "default" at the bottom of the window it will revert to the factory shortcuts and eliminate any you may have accidentally created...
Hope that solves your delete issue...

DVD Drive problem

Yes the drive mechanism is bad.

Please don't open up your mac if it is still under warranty, as this will void it. The warranty is 1 year after purchase, or up to 3 years if you purchased apple care.

Please take your laptop in to be repaired by an authorized apple technician either at an authorized apple reseller or directly to the apple store.

DVD not working

Does any other DVD play? If so, your drivers are fine and the disc may be unreadable due to dirt on the lens, scratched too badly, not in the correct format, etc. Is there any error message? When you put the disc in, does the DVD drive icon change? You can also try putting the DVD in another DVD player to see if it plays in that one.

DVD player won't play

Make sure you have inserted the correctly; the label faces away from the TV/DVD player.

Kim,  I'm glad you asked this.  I have had problems with my superdrive as well.  What I found out through persistent research is this:     The new Superdrives can take CD+R and DVD+R.  (I am assuming you are asking about recording?   However, the older models of Superdrives ---usually found in Powerbook G4s, can take CD-R and DVD-R.  These are different from the first ones ini that they are slower to burn, and just a few gb short of space than the +.  this should help solve the problem with taking new cds and dvds for burning.  The superdrive tends to just spit these right back out.  If you are referring to playing them, then have you tried cleaning the dirty ones?  Check the help section at www.apple.com.  they have wonderful solutions.  Try to put in a couple new cds or dvds to play.  Open up itunes or the dvd player before you put the disks in.  If you're still having trouble, make use of that warranty and go to your nearest apple store to fix it right up! Hope this helps!
