Question about Apple MacBook Mac Notebook
If other DVDs play OK on your laptop, then the problem is not in your laptop. If no DVDs play on your laptop, then the problem is in the optical drive.
It usually takes more to scratch a DVD than placing it next to some other DVD.

I have seen this problem before...
It was solved by getting a super-thick permanent marker, and colouring in the entire top surface. Apparently the top surface had become scratched and was causing problems for the laser on the underside. Make sure it's a permanent marker or the ink will rub off inside the drive.
