I want to get the best assessment before messing with the lamp on my Optoma HD70. The project is procting a white screen with a bunch of dots and lines, but not picture. I also can not access the menu or welcome screen. I tried with the cable connected and unconnected, and achieved the same result. Can the lamp be bad, even though it is projecting onto the screen? The lamp has very low hours (350 or so). What are the alternative trouble shooting options?

This issue is not caused by a faulty bulb or a dirty lens. I find it amazing how people who do not know what they are talking about or are qualified in the field can just post any **** and expect you to believe it. I am however qualified in the field and I can tell you going by your description of the issue the DMD chip has likely failed. This is generally fixable and you can buy them for around the $200 mark. Hope this helps

Hi! I suspect the lamp on this. since there is no display theres no way we can access the menu for there is nothing to view. Im afraid you will have to replace the lamp to get it back to work again. Hope this helps and have a good one!

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. It seems to be the lamp that has gone bad and should be replaced. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

the lamp only had 350 hours the last time i checked...which was less than a week ago. I am curious if the lamp was bad, how could it project light on the screen with the dots?

If the lamp is fine then the issue can be due to
dirty lens. To start with remove the lamp and then clean its surface with a
lens cloth. Also if you can take it apart then check inside the unit and try to
clean it. If you are unable to do so then its recommended for a professional
cleaning. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a
    comment for further assistance.

    Thanks

    Rylee

If you focus the image on a screen up close to the projector and notice small rectangular black and white spots, then you have pixel failures.

Vertical lines showing. it is an Optoma HD70

If the lines present in the menu when displayed this indicates device mounting troubles. Possibly loose in socket. If you change aspect of displayed image do the lines move, if they do, its an electronics problem, if they are constant, and nothing is displayed in the lines. Tighten device in socket, or seek professional service.
