Question about HP Officejet J4680 InkJet Printer
My HP officejet j4680 shows an error message when I attempt to scan telling me that the HP Imaging device cannot be found. I have seen several solutions to this problem and I believe it could be resolved in the HP Solution Center, in the Scan to settings. However, I can't access these options as the error message also appears when I attempt to change the settings. I have tried turning the printer off and changing them with the printer offline but this doesn't help. Is there anyway I can disable the error message or work around it?
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Have you got an installation CD or downloaded the printer driver?
If not you need to download the drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model printer and the XP or Vista Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Use this link to download the drivers: -
Then click on the downloaded file to install the printer driver.

If you are trying to do this from the printer, open your HP Solution Center on your computer. Click Settings, then Scan Settings, then select Scan To setup. I added everything from the list. Then you just click Update the device. Then you should be able to scan from the printer to your computer.
To check, scroll over to Scan, click OK, you should see Scan To, then hit OK again you should see your computer, hit OK again to see the available scan options, use the arrow to find what you want to scan, then just hit OK again to start your scan.

Please install the printer software and try to scan via the installed software from the computer. Or, start scan using scan button from printer; after installing software.
