sounds like you do have an issue with the fan. You can get an external fan from like gamestop or another store such as that. It would be called an intracooler, or intercooler. You have to make sure its for the model you have tho this would help some of the issue. Otherwise you can search in craigslist or something of these sorts. I dont reccomend opening your PS3 however you can find in craigslist under the videogame area people who fix your systems. It may take 20-40 dollars or something like that, but its worth it. They usually guarentee their work for a month or more too.. Good luck.
Yup its your laser. You need to try wiping it off wih qtip and rubbing alcohol if that doesnt work just replace the laser. Ps3 lasers are the most expensive though due to blu ray.
hello try a fan test to see if the fans are working properly , take the power lead out of the back then reinsert the lead in while doing this press and hold the eject button you should hear the fans boot up. this may blow all the dust out, also try an update on the console good luck
if you think the fan is not running it may not or on new models the fan is so quiet so put your hand on the back of the unit and see if you can feel air coming out of the unit if not then I have fan on sale or you can send your unit and we can tested and install a new fan or fix your freezing problem if the fan is ok

Turn off the PS3 with the switch on the back, then turn back on. wait till the light is solid red then hold your finger on the start button for abount 10 seconds until you hear it beep twice.
It will then ask you to connect a controller via the usb cable and press the PS button. Once you do this it will bring up the reset menu.
Unfortunately the only way I found that solves this is a full system restore that wipes the hard drive completely.
You do however retain and data saved online such as COD stats etc and playstation store purchases with your PSN.

if u play for the PS3 like save ur game and turn it off evey like 1 one hour for like 10 minutes especially the 40 gig if this dosent work buy a fan for it its at gamestop for like $45-$85
awww sucks for u it over heated ,idk but i think u had it in a small space to where it couldnt get fresh air so it got hot air which only made it hoter.call gamestop and ask them if its sopost to do that and wat to do if not
