Hello,

Find access to the pilot light. Most pilot lights are located beneath the bottom shelf of the gas oven. Remove the shelf and use a screwdriver to remove the flame spreader. If the bottom shelf does not easily lift up, access the pilot light by opening the broiler door and removing the broiler shelf.
Observe the pilot light. Either the pilot light is lit but will not light the oven, or the pilot light is unlit. If there is no flame on the pilot light, remove any grease or burned food collected around it. Use a straight pin to clean out the orifice and a wire brush and dishwashing detergent to remove any grease from the pilot light. Then attempt to light the pilot light with a long match. If the pilot light fails to light, there is a problem with the thermostat or the gas piping to the light.
Turn up the thermostat while observing the pilot light if the light is lit but does not ignite gas to the oven. The pilot light should surge and extend the flame to engulf the safety valve thermocouple. The SVT is a metal tube that is located near the pilot light. If the pilot light does not extend the flame and it is clean, then the thermostat has most likely failed and needs to be replaced.
Move the SVT closer to the pilot light if the flame extends over the SVT and the oven will not light. If the SVT is contacting the extended flame and the burner still will not light, then the SVT needs to be replaced.
Replace any parts as required. Reassemble the oven. Turn up the thermostat to verify that the oven is working properly.
Take care.

How do you start the oven on a Hardwick propane range?

The bottom part of the stove in the front has a drawer you pull out which has a broiler tray located there. You should be able to fold the door down and use a flash light to look inside . You will find a pilot light set-up there.
The stove I have has the pilot gas on all the time, so as soon as you turn on the gas to the range, the pilot gas is open to atmosphere.
I just light a match and reach in to where the gas piping can be seen and the pilot flame will light.
There is only a small amount of gas coming from the pilot orifice, so there isn't any danger lighting it when the gas is first turned on at the tank.
In fact you may have to wait a few minutes for it to light at first because the propane line maybe full of air. I usually light the top burners of the stove first and by that time the pilot gas for the oven is ok to light.

Where is the pilotlight on a ge xl44 gas stove I belive it is in the door under the oven well I turned the gas on and stuck a flame down there and nothen took off is there a certian place to put the flame....

In general lets be clear. The OVEN pilot is located under the oven door at the top of the Broiler. It is a small piece of metal just before the GAS safety Valve which acts on temperature so gas won't flow unless Pilot is lit,That's the OVEN PILOT.The stove's RANGE is the top burners where you heat Pots and Pans.It has either 2 Pilot lights that connect the burners to the Flame they are under the Range Top.Newer Models use electronic ignitions no flame. Please note if you had your stove/oven disconected or Gas off when you turn it back on there will be air in the line that needs to escape before you light. This is why in NYC when Utility Co.works on steet main the MUST re-light your appliances.Be Careful with Gas.Good Luck.

Gas oven dosnt work

the pilot light is there for 2 purposes. number 1 to light the burner and number 2 to heat up the thermocouple, thermocouple is a wire that the flame from pilot suppose to surround by fire. if the pilot is to low it will not reach the thermocouple. you can take the gas line that supplies gas to the pilot and clean it with a safety pin or a small needle. you can test the thermocouple by heating it up with a blow torch on low heat, get it red hot and then turned on the oven. if the oven works clean the pilot, if the oven do not work, replace the thermocouple if separate from safety valve. if thermocouple is part of it replace the safety valve.

Oven pilot light won't light

Part of the problem was my own ignorance about this particular Kenmore gas oven. It doesn't even have a pilot light. Instead, there is an electric heating element close to the burner which gets so hot that it ignites the gas. It seems that the heating element also doubles as a temperature sensor, so that it opens the gas valve only when the heating element is hot enough to ignite the gas. This heating element, called the "ignitor", no longer gets hot in my oven even though there is 120VAC applied to it when the oven knob is turned on. Therefore, the ignitor is defective. I ordered a new one on-line from "Appliance Parts of America" for $31.50 plus shipping, and this should fix the problem. If it does NOT, I'll add to this post.
