Question about Whirlpool Ultimate Care II LSQ9549L Top Load Washer

1 Answer

My Ultimate II washer whole top lid is loose(not the lid to access the tub to put laundry in but the top part the lid sits in) and is constatly shifting. I think the clips or the screws may have came loose from wear and tear. What replacemnet parts do I need if there are any? The washer is about four years old.

My Whirlpool Ultimate Care II doesn't finish the cycle. It fills with water and then it stops. It won't go to the rinse or spin cycles. I think we've fixed this before, but I have no idea what part to buy.

This is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. If the washer fills, agitates, then stops at the rinse and won't drain, or if the washer does an initial fill, then stops, this is a symptom of a lid switch malfunction.

The following link explains how to access and/or replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug.
If the model number you have this listed under is correct, the lid switch part number (if required) is 3949247. The lid strike (if required) is 358684.

If the lid switch is found to be defective, it can be purchased at applaincepartspros.com for about $23.

This is a very simple repair, but if you still have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

How do I access the pump on a whirlpool Ultimate Care II

A bad pump would not affect a washer's ability to spin. It would only affect the drain function. If the washer fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle and drain, this is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. Just use your model number as your search criteria. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all them for the best price.

Fills, then nothing

This is a symptom of a loose or defective lid switch. If you open and close the washer lid, you should hear the "clicking" sound of the lid switch as it is activated. If you do not hear anything, check to make the switch has not come loose. Sometimes a simple tightening of the mounting screws will re-align the switch to its proper location. If the switch is broken and does not function, click on the following link for advice on how to replace the lid switch for a Whirlpool washer.

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385199-replacing_lid_switch_whirlpool_top

Most lid switches are located on the right hand side of the wash tub opening under the rim of the external case. There will be a small hole where a plastic piece on the lid (called a lid strike) pushes down on a contact. Make sure the lid strike is not broken off. This will also cause the same symptoms.

On other models, the lid switch is located on the left-hand side in the by the hinge of the lid under the washer casing rim. This switch is out of view and is activated by a rod on the lid switch hinge. Sometimes the rod requires adjusting to correct a simple contact problem. NOTE: Your washer will not have the small opening on the right-hand side of the wash tub rim if equipped with this type of lid switch).

Please post back if you require further assistance. I hope this helps you.

Different models use different devices to "suspend" the tub. Please verify the exact make / model.
