Question about PC Desktops

Some keys do not work on my new HP Pavilion dv2637tx notebook. I'm located in Australia. I was told it may be my settings.

Problem could be settings. I'm in Australia. I think it may be a glitch in Vista, but can't sign on to internet using existing account because I require some keys that are not functioning.

Settings are set to language: English (Australia)

    Keyboard: US (default)

I don't have any other languages set. Any Suggestions? Does Vista have a virtual keypad or some other option?

Hello ellystavraki,

Do you mean you get different characters when you press a key, or that nothing happens when you press a key?

If it is the former, you may have the wrong language set up. (I assume you have Vista/XP). You can easily change this by going to START>CONTROL PANEL>REGIONAL & LANGUAGE OPTIONS>REGION OPTIONS TAB. Here choose English (US) or English (Australia)/(United Kingdom) depending whether you have the $ sign or the Sterling sign on your keyboard or whatever setting suits your keyboard.

If it is the latter, it could be that there is a problem with the keyboard itself. Since you mentioned that this is a new laptop, it should be under warranty. Take it back to the point of purchase and get it replaced or ask them to get it fixed. Hope this helps...

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here. Please do not assign a rating until you feel your problem is resolved. I will try my best to help you further if need be.

If you are satisfied with my solution or have no other questions, please close the problem by assigning a FIXYA rating for my solution. I would be very grateful for your show of appreciation.

I think, in BIOS setting your first booting device is the 60GB HDD. change it to HDD0 as 1st boot, CD Drive as 2nd boot and HDD1 as third boot device and it would not ask any error report.

The issue could be due to incorrect audio settings.
I recommend you to follow the steps in the below link:

Also try reinstalling or updating the microphone drivers to isolate the issue.

This error message may appear when the computer BIOS is set to boot from a network and cannot find a bootable operating system on the network or on any of the storage devices included in the notebook PC's boot path.

The following steps are for most HP Pavilion and Compaq Presario Notebook PCs. The boot order can be configured on the Advanced tab in the BIOS settings menu. The steps to modify the boot order may vary depending on the model of your computer. On most HP notebooks the boot order can be configured using the following steps:
  1. Turn on or restart the computer.
  2. While the display is blank, press the F10 key to enter the BIOS settings menu. NOTE: Some notebook PCs use the F2 or F6 key.
  3. Use the right and left arrow keys to select the Advanced tab.
  4. Use the up and down arrow keys to select Boot Order .
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to change the boot order.
Reset the boot order to the default settings Use the following steps to reset the boot order to the default settings:
  1. Turn on or restart the computer.
  2. While the display is blank, press the F10 key to enter the BIOS settings menu.
  3. Press the F9 key to reset the BIOS to default settings.
  4. Press the F10 to save the changes and exit the BIOS settings menu.

I think it will you to fix your problem.
If still have problem then tell me more about it.

Thanks

HP Pavilion 8860-sound card

this model of PC has an integrated sound card. this means it is located on the motherboard so you can't replace it. this could be a good thing for you since you can install pretty much any PCI sound card that you want. There are cheap ones and very expensive ones available. Depending what you use your PC for even a cheap one will work, such as if you just play CDs, internet radio etc.
The instructions to install a new sound card will be included with your card, but it is one of the simplest things to install. (open case, insert, close case, let windows install drivers.)
