Question about Poulan ES350 16" Chain Saw

1 Answer

PP3516 ran slow for a while then quit.

Saw started after about 5 pulls but did not rev. Dumped old fuel Dumped old fuel and put fresh in tank. Ran a few minutes but would rev. Plug has blue fire so is OK. For a while I thought fuel was not there. Took fuel system apart and found nothing. Plug is now getting wet but still want start. Saw has been used very little. Gas tank seems to have pressure as when releasing for more fuel it spews. Can anyone help. Thanks

Recheck the spark--if the plug is wet, it should have at least popped several times. Try a new plug gapped at 0.020". Check the fuel filter, air filter, and muffler for plugging. Check the fuel lines for decay or other damage--if replacing any, use original rubber lines only, not plastic. Does the primer bulb fill with fuel after several pumps? Remove the carburetor, and clean it inside and out with spray carburetor cleaner. Look closely at the lower chamber diaphragm which should be pliable with no holes or other damage. There is a small filter screen within the main body that can get plugged with stale fuel. Check the components between the carburetor and cylinder for any damage. Go to: for a 12 page article on Walbro brand carburetor theory and troubleshooting which also applies to other carburetor brands as well. Hope some of this helps!

Testimonial: "Thanks, have done all that you mentioned except new plug and possibly a filter in fuel tank. I assumed with blue fire at plug that would mean it was OK. Again, Thanks!"

How do i replace my fuel in my fuel tank

To get the fuel out take the cap off the tank and dump the old fuel into a empty gas can. Then mix up some fresh fuel using fresh gas and pore it into your fuel tank. Somewhere on the saw or in your owners manual the proper fuel and oil mix should be listed. Put the fresh fuel in the tank. There still may be some old fuel in the fuel lines so use some starting fluid so the old fuel is pulled through when you first start it.

You stated that there is fuel coming out of the bar, If this is the case fuel has gotten into the bar oil tank. Drain the bar oil tank and the fill with bar oil then drain the fuel tank and fill with fresh fuel.

Check the fuel filter, air cleaner, and muffler for plugging. Check the fuel lines for decay or other damage. Make sure the chain is being oiled and that you can turn the chain by hand. Be sure to have fresh fuel mix and be sure to shake the container thoroughly before each tank fill to prevent oil starvation. Hope this helps!

Idles fast, won't cut wood, stalls under load

Clean the fuel filter, air cleaner and muffler if clogged. Check all fuel lines for condition--replace any with original rubber lines--not plastic. The carburetor sounds like it could use a thorough cleaning and re-kit. It's somewhat common for saws to leak some bar oil over a long period. Good luck!

Engine starts and runs a few seconds and quits

It sounds like your carburetor needs cleaned. If you started it for the first time without emptying the old gas, you may have had dirt particle's that had settled at the bottom of the tank. This would explain why it had ran the day before. If you need further assistance on how to clean the carb., just let me know.

Ran out of gas......

Sounds like fuel pump burned out when you ran out of gas. probably ran dry for about 20 sec till engine quit. Check for power to fuel pump in tank. Most likely fuel pump will need replacement . Hope this helps

I have a husqvarna 142E chainsaw that will not start. I have verified that I have fuel to the cylinder and have spark. I made up new fuel/oil mixture to ensure that was not a problem.

Have you ensured that you are using fresh fuel and not fuel that you may have stored from last season.

Fuel does have a limited life so before you do anything else make sure it's fresh.

My best regards
