Same Problem

Jun 27, 2008

-   Upgraded from SPC900NC to Philips SPC1300NC webcam, removed all old software first, used CCleaner and my 16 years IT expert skills to clean my system. Then I installed the SPC1300NC and the camera was not being recognized as an SPC1300NC, instead it was being recognized as an "Unknown Device" and the drivers would not make the camera work.

I tried for 1 week all of my skills, expertise and knowledge of Windows and Hardware/software drivers (I am an IT support Manager by trade). No Joy at getting the camera recognized by the computer.

My system is SCSI... so I disconnected my SCSI Card and decided to do a test, before resorting to a complete FORMAT of my SCSI hard drive.

I installed my 80GB IDE drive and setup everything from scratch and hooray!, the camera appeared to be working perfectly.

So I decided to backup my data and do a complete reinstall on my SCSI hard drive and hooray.. everything appeared to be working perfectly.. EXCEPT.....

The camera does work, for random periods of time... roughly 5 to 15 minutes on average (AT BEST 15 minutes)... then it freezes. This is true of skype, vlounge (philips software that came with the cam), yahoo and MSN.

So... I decided to put my IDE drive back in, without the SCSI card connected again... and see if it was a problem with my SCSI and USB camera... and... NO, the camera still freezes after random time periods.

I then tried moving my cards around in the computer to see if that helped, still no joy.

The drivers I tried initially were the ones that came with the camera.... then after a while I upgraded to the latest drivers from the philips website... still the same problem.

I returned the camera to walmart and got a replacement thinking "it must be faulty".... and still the same problem with the new camera.

Tried the camera on my other PC .. a DUAL CORE with on-board Intel Graphics.... and once again the same problems...

My original PC is a Pentium 4 (Gigabyte 8i875 Ultra motherboard) and a ASUS 9550 graphics card (ATI CHIP).

So I guessed, perhaps it is something to do with my wireless connection (but that does not explain why Vlounge freezes the camera)...... so I used an RJ45 cable.... still no joy.

And finally , I tried using CUSTOM settings on the camera, defulat settings on the camera software, "automatic everything" and manual adjustments, as I had read on one site that a person suffering freezing problems used auto settings and it was OK, but manual settings caused freezing.

NO JOY... I am might annoyed with this issue.

My Philips SPC900NC worked great and trouble free, I gave it to my father when he visited me from England (I live in America) and bought myself the new SPC1300NC thinking it would be an upgrade,... instead it is a complete disaster and nothing but a nightmare.

I a strongly feel it is a Philips Driver issue and perhaps does not like the ASUS 9550 Graphics card, as my machine is well and truly above the recommended specs on the packet (i.e. 2.8ghz Intel P4 1mb Cache, 1GB RAM, USb2.0 ports and USB1.0 ports, I have tried the camera in BOTH and no joy). My drivers for the motherboard and USB ports are fully up to date, etc.

Please someone, find a solution, as this is a nice camera with an awful stand but nice picture when it works.
