Question about Televison & Video
I have a jvc interiart about 4 years old the screen has d purple colour on the edges . does this mean the tube is faulty or is it related to static or magnetisum from speakers etc in close proximity. when i frist had tv i had a similar problem not as bad and the engineer restored the colour with a device instantly pls help
This is a very easy repair belive it or not,and can be done very cheaply by your self if you feel compitant to do it.
By the way please check first that there is no speakers near the tv as this will also cause this problem.
Now take the back off the tv(make sure it is unplugged for 24 hours or so,so you dont risk an electic shock)make sure you have a soldering iron handy and solder, slide the chassis out(circuit board)and in the power section where the power lead goes in from the on/off switch or where the on off switch is you will have a white/black or grey connecter block with 2 wires going to the degausing circuit on the back of the tube, near the connecter block on the circuit board you should see either a small white disc shaped component about half a cm high or a small black square componant about a cm high(proberbly the latter),you will have to turn the circuit board over to unsolder it,normaly this componant will have 2 or 3 pins solderd into the circuit board, simply unsolder and source another part from mapplins or charles hyde etc(should only cost obout 50p for the part)or pop into your local tv repair shop with the part and ask if they have a replacment, when you have sourced the part then simply re-solder in and away you go(make sure if you have had to unplug any leads in the tv that you make a note and re-plug back in the same place.
By the way this part is called a possister or a phemister and is used for degausing the tube.
