Unfortunately, over the years, crib standards and safety have changed. This crib may have been involved in a recall being so old and should not be used for a child. You can confirm with the manufacturer if this crib is still safe to use. The distance between the railings has been changed in recent years bacause of children getting stuck between the bars. Also, depending on the shape/style of your crib, there have also been stranglement deaths/injuries from multiple issues ranging from gaps between the mattress and the crib frame, the railings being too wide, and the end pieces with ornate corners with cut outs, etc.

The manufacturer should be able to assist you with any questions you have or parts that you need to make this crib whole again.

We have this crib as well. We bought it from Babys R' Us in 2005.
We also purchased the rails to convert it to a full sized bed. It did not come with instructions but I can explain to you how to put it together.

The rail conversion set should come with 2 pieces of wood that act as the bed frame. You do not need to purchase the extended frame. The set should also come with 4 long screws, the hex tool to tighten it and 4 metal pieces. You might also have some wood nail cover plugs.

Once you've taken apart your crib, the only pieces that you will need are the 2 longer pieces of the crib...the headboard and the footboard. The 2 shorter side pieces which served as a headboard and footboard as a crib and the metal grate to hold up the mattress can be put into storage.

On the sides of each of the new wood rails, you will see a circle indent on each end with a hole. You will insert one of the long screws into each and then insert it into the head board. You must use the special tool to screw/ tighten it in. The metal flat pieces can be inserted into it the circle befor eyou are done tightning so that it does not strip or damage the end of the circle. You do this with the other rail on the other end and then add the footboard using the same process. If you would like, I can send you a copy of what this looks like close up. ( the cricle indent with screws. The bed is extremely strong. We've all napt in it as a family along with our 2 large dogs. I highly recommend ordering the extra long/ tall bed rails from OneStepAhead for security because my son has rolled out of the bed and it is super tall!

I have a bassett baby bed with no instructions, which way does the rail sit? Bed was manufactured in 1991. There is one keyhole slot on each side of the rail, does keyhole go in the top or in the bottom...

Just as I thought the keyhole slot went in the top screw hole for that section; noting the purpose of the keyhole slot is to put it on the screw and slide it down. I finally got the bed together, might I add without instructions, and it works great.

Try emailing the manufacturer directly for a manual at juvenile@bassettfurniture.com or call
1-877-525-7070. Ask them to email it and maybe you can open the picture so it is not teeny tiny. Or ask them to mail you one. Faxing never seems to come through clearly.

The manufacturer should be able to assist you with any questions you have to put this crib together.

One helpful tip that I have - Put it together IN the baby's Room! Many 1st time parents like to put it together in the comfort of their livingrooms. It WILL NOT fit through doorways. This is a lesson you DO NOT want to learn the hard way. =)

Missing pieces

This is from Bassett's website.

Bassett recommends that all cribs manufactured prior to 1972 be replaced because improved safety features were instituted that year. If your crib was made in 1972 or after, replacement parts are available from Products America at 1-800-772-1041. If you are unsure when your Bassett crib was made, Bassett urges you to replace it.

Bassett crib sides falling down

You likely are missing the lower track assemblies. Part # CC (right) and DD (left). These screw into the lower inside legs on the side with the drop down rail to secure the rail from dropping off. See instructions, Step 1 and Step 2.

Call Bassett 1-276-629-6000 to obtain instructions and a parts list for model # 5926-0504 (look on the inside headboard - not the gold label).

Parts can be ordered from Products America 1-800-772-1041
