The battery unit of my byron sx81r doorbell is showing a red light continuously. I have changed the batteries in this and the doorbell. Batteries are also discharging very quickly. Is there a simple fix? I bought the doorbell 5 months ago so relatively new. Regards, Ray

It's awfull ! I've tried to copy the relevant bits and it's like nailing a jelly up on the ceiling!
Wish I hadn't bought it ! Eats batteries, totally unreliable. You can't be sure if it's the base or one of the bell pushes. Horrible!

Same problem here. I've just tried this as I figure it's the red led light that is chewing up the batteries- same thing bats last about two weeks max.
- undo the two screws in the battery compartment and carefully pry open unit.

Disconnect the two wires (black and white) going to the led light. Pair of scissors will do.
Leave loose- do not reconnect those wires, just ensure the ends aren't touching anything before closing unit and presto.
Early days so far but so far so good.

Model No. JSJS-204 Doorbell draining batteries fast! About 4 months old. Now on 3rd set of batteries.

It might be your batteries. Are you using Lithium or regular batteries? Often the cheaper batteries will go down FAST!

Consider investing in a new doorbell, or buying a rechargeable battery pack so you're not continuing to replace the batteries but simply recharge them - usually overnight. Battery chargers can be expensive, so try to buy one that charges a varity of the kinds of batteries you use most often.

  • Other "fixes" with doorbells include checking to ensure the batteries are properly seated - ie. press the spring down and make sure the batteries aren't grounding out on another part of the case.
  • Is the temperature in your area cold? Cold will sap a battery FAST - and that's everything from car batteries to flashlight, doorbell, anything that depends on any size of battery.
  • Do you have kids who play with the doorbell? Frequent use will kill the batteries.
  • Do you have a battery level checker to make sure the "fresh" batteries you're putting in are really fresh? Here's a $7.95 battery checker from Amazon. Many packages of batteries also come with checker built into the cardboard container (free!) as well.

Indoor plug in device works fine but doorbell isn't despite changing batteries.

Salutations Helen Wahlen,

If you DO NOT have a RESET procedure in the MANUAL... Remove ALL power from both units... (battery from the base ...if equipped).

Re-Plug the base unit close to where the button is mounted
and restore all batteries & power and start the INSTALL instructions from the beginning.

Failing that.. DISCLOSE what in the world we are discussing (make, model... year, etc) and we can give it more appropriate attention... (resulting in better advice),

Happy hunting!

My Byron door bell has started ringing itself at random times - not welcome at three in the morning

It is NOT random.

You have a ghost visiting your house.

(or a little rats azz neighbor kid)

Replace any batteries. Low batteries can cause false rings in wireless doorbells, too.

I still think it is ghosts, however.

Phantom bell rings on Siemens wirreless door bell chime jsjs-204, I do not have instructions

You may need to change the frequency of the chime. In this model, you need to remove the batteries from the receiver unit and wait for a while. Then replace the batteries. The doorbell unit should automatically set itself to a different frequency once you press the button, which will(hopefully) solve the problem.

It seems impossible to find the instruction manual for the doorbell. But see http://oddsnsods.net/blog/?p=68 who had a similar problem with a different Siemens model, which works on the same principles. (I can't seem to be able to remove the battery from the door bell unit on the jsjs204, but it reset itself after changing the batteries in the receiver).

How do I reprogram my byron sx81r door bell, it rings anytime and also changes its own tune when it likes

If it plays anytune that it must be picking up another doorbell frequency, and according to the instructions you need to 'reset the digital code' of the frequency for your doorbell. I've had problems doing this with mine, but you never know, it just might work for you....here are the instructions: http://media.chbyron.eu/file/pdf/SX86_EU-IS_-30-01-09_instructions.pdf

I have a byron SX85R plug in wireless door bell, i need to change the frequency/ or code, keep false alarming, cant find the instructions , also with the alarm, is a batterie alarm no. SX81R, which came...

From User Guide: Interference from a similar unit operating nearby: a) simply remove the batteries from the push button and door chime units and rest for 10 seconds, this will erase memory b) Insert the batteries into the push button and door chime units, the door chime unit will give 2-beeps to indicate that it is ready for the new registration code. Press the Push Button once, it will generate a new operation code randomly and send a wireless ignal to the door chime unit and it will sound to indicate that new operation code is registered and memorised.
(Note with this unit SX85R the door chime is mains powered, not battery powered, but above instructions are the same)
