Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook

1 Answer

I have a problem with the serial port on my Dell Latitude D630. When it's in the dock it works just fine. When it's out of the dock I can't connect to my handheld device with it. Even though hyperterminal works just fine and I can communicate from laptop to handheld just fine using it -so I know the port is working.

Delete the port from device manager (uninstall device) and reinstall it (scan for hardware changes)
(Undock it first)

SOURCE: dell latitude bios reset

The BIOS setup password is stored in NVRAM and can only be accessed with that password. On the bottom of the laptop there is a Service Tag number. Dell support site can use that number to generate a master password for you. http://support.dell.com/support/index.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn If you need further help please post back. SOURCE: dell latitude d630 forgot bios password

Go to Dell support and download the latest BIOS revision. When you flash the bios it should wipe out the password. The second option is not as appealing.... open up the laptop and remove the CMOS battery for 30 seconds. This is much easier on a desktop, but a proven solution if there is no other way.

SOURCE: dell latatude D630 is docked/battery flashing 4 red 1 green

4 orange and 1 green can mean a battery malfunction, or it could be an indication that the battery is about to reach the end of its life cycle. When a battery is built, it has a planned expectancy. a date code is stamped in the electronics of the battery pack. as that date code is reached, the indicator lights on the computer let you know the battery (even if its working fine) is considered obsolete and needs to be replaced soon.

Keyboard not working on one side of switch

the GCS632U has keyboard and mouse emulation that may not function correctly with docking stations. To ensure the KVM it self is working correctly I would suggest plugging the single USB from the KVM directly into the laptop and see if you have the same keyboard problem. This will at least tell you if the KVM is working properly or not.

MY D630 LAPTOP DOES NOT WORK IN DOCKING STATION

When powering on the D630 from the Docking Station, press F2 to go into Setup. Scroll down to the Docking Section, and check the Dock device info for the status. If it shows undocked, then try changing the below settings to: Hot Undock, Enabled Silent, and Universal Connect Enabled. Save these settings. Make sure you update your BIOS to A16 from http://support.dell.com under drivers and downloads section. If still not recognized after this, check the dock port on the D630 for obstructions or burn markings on the pins. try cleaning with rubbing alcohol and qtip swab. I have seen a few cases like this and ultimately the motherboard was the issue and needed to be replaced.

Try updating to BIOS to version A16 from http://support.dell.com Ensure you are not attached to the docking station when flashing the BIOS. Once updated, connect the 90W adapter to the docking station, connect your laptop to the dock, and power on using the docking station power button.

Laptop won't dock

The inspiron 600M will not function in a D-Dock, but will work in a D-Series port Replicator. (Although the D600 and 600M share the same motherboard, the bottom plastics are different)

After trying the 600M in the D-Dock, it is possible the dock is damaged. I would undock the D630, then delete the docked profile. power off, dock, and reboot and see if it detects and works.

D630 docked , ext mouse & kybd not responding

If the docking station has power:

Make sure power is off for both the laptop and the docking station. Plug your keyboard and mouse into the docking station. Dock the D630 to the docking station and then power on docking station. This should then turn on your D630. Your D630 should detect the keyboard and mouse.

If the docking station has no power:

Verify that the power cord, AC adaptor, etc. is plugged in. If the items listed seem to be in order,
there may be a problem with the power going into the docking station. (AC adaptor?)

support.dell.com will have the specific details for your D630 and your docking station, et al.

Please let me know if you have success in this.
