If you're sure it's the motor than you must call a repairman to replace it. Although, if your machine isn't in perfect condition perhaps you should consider buying a new machine or replacing broken motor with used motor (second-hand) since it is not a cheap part and repair itself will cost you too.

Why is my frigidaire washer not spinning?

  1. Stopped Mid-cycle
    • If your Frigidaire washing machine started spinning, but then stopped, verify that the power cord is still connected to the outlet. See if the outlet blew by plugging in a different appliance into the outlet. See if you blew a fuse. A blown fuse usually is either black or has broken wires. Replace the fuse. If you have a circuit breaker instead of a fuse box, reset the circuit breaker if it's been tripped. Check the lid switch, which is located inside the main housing of the washing machine, near the door frame. If the switch is burned out, order a new part from a Frigidaire parts dealer.
    Pump
    • The pump's sole responsibility is to remove water during the spin cycle. If the pump isn't working properly, see if it's clogged with debris or clothing. Use needle-nose pliers to remove these items. Check the pump pulley, which is connected to the pump. This component must move freely for the pump to work. If it won't turn, purchase a new pump pulley since you can't usually fix this component.
    Lid
    • Check the door latch assembly if the door isn't closing correctly. If any of these components are broken, order a new part from a Frigidaire parts dealer. If you do not, the washer won't start spinning since it believes the door isn't closed. Your Frigidaire washing machine won't start the spin cycle until the lid or door is closed. Always close the lid, and remove any items preventing the lid from fully closing. Always close the dispenser drawer.
    Additional Concerns
    • Never over- or under-load your washing machine. Your Frigidaire washer may not enter the spin cycle if the load is too large, since this can damage the washing machine. Remove a few pieces of clothing. If the load is too small, add a few similar items to the washing machine. Check the internal belt, drive motor and motor coupling. If any of these components are broken or very worn, they may not work properly, preventing the washer from entering the spin cycle. Order replacement parts from a parts dealer. Check the tub and basket bearings, and get new ones if the current ones have broken components or are defective.

When the washer reaches the spin cycle it stops. the motor sounds like it wants to work. Now the machine won't work in any cycle but motor gets hot and wants to work

Hi,
Check and see if the ****** has locked up... try to turn the motor shaft and see if it will move... if not then the transmission is locked... ie. broken...
If it will move then the motor is caput...or broken... replace the motor...

The water comes out in the detergent/softerner liquid dispenser; instead in the main washer.

Water Problems
Sometimes water will not enter the machine in order to properly wash clothing. In that case, the water may be turned off or the water fill valve, water temperature switch or timer may not be functioning correctly. A defective water valve or timer can also cause the machine to not enter the spray rinse cycle. Another issue that arises is when the water will not drain out of the machine. The drain may simply be clogged, or the drain hose or pump may be malfunctioning. Water will splash on the floor if the pump or water valve is not working, or if the machine is operating on a low level of water with a high level of agitation, which means the force that promotes all the functions of the machine.
Cycle Problems
Malfunctions of the various cycles are common as well. If no agitation occurs, the agitator spine may be stripped, or the motor or internal transmission system could be broken. If the machine will neither agitate nor spin, the belt or coupling is most likely the problem. There are a number of issues associated with either no spin or a slow spin including an open lid, defective lid switch, spin tube, wigwag, timer or wigwag wire or a drive belt that is not properly adjusted. When the motor will not run at all, first check the power cord to make sure that it is plugged in. If that does not solve the problem, issues are found in the timer, lid switch, motor or water level switch.
Other Issues
Sometimes washing machines will excessively vibrate or "walk," meaning that they begin to inch forward while the motor is running. Check inside the machine to see if there is an unbalanced load. Heavier items, such as sneakers, cause vibration as well. The load can be fixed and any unnecessary items removed. If the problem persists, other possible issues include an improperly leveled machine, a worn-out snubber, broken suspension springs or shipping pins that have not been removed. Another problem that arises with washing machines is oil leakage caused by transmission failure, which is one of the more costly issues to fix.

Why kithenaid top load washer won't spin. Any ideas on how to troube shoot the proplem?

Hi

The washer is not spinning maybe due to motor not running or due to frozen pulley or broken belt. To confirm where the issue is check if the motor is running, if motor is running then its due to broken belt or frozen pulley. Remove the back lid of the washer and check if the belt is broken or disengaged. If belt seems to be fine then check the pulley.

However, if all of these is fine then the door lid switch is defective and due to that the machine is not entering the spin cycle. Inspect the lid switch; its located is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. Please post back for any further assistance.

Spin cycle

Does it agitate?
Does it spin by hand?
Does it agitate if you advance the timer?

Could be the lid switch (#1).
Could be a broken motor/pump coupling.
Could be the timer.

Look under the washer for bits of black rubber (indicating the coupling insert has failed.

If the coupling is in place, next, bypass the lid switch temporarily to see if you can trick the unit to think the door is closed (safety mechanism)

if the lid switch is bypassed, the coupling is good, the timer is faulty.

All items in this answer can be found at repairclinic.com and enter your model # in the box.

If you hear the motor trying to spin - the most common problem in this direct drive unit is the rubber coupling element and broken coupling teeth.

Motor just humm's when put on spin. Doen's seen to

Assuming that this is the basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain two piece agitator model.

There is a Sears repair parts site:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number and a list of major sub-components will come up.

Since it isn't agitating (I assume not at all rather than just the top part of the agitator. If just the top part isn't turning then the easiest solution is replacing the 4 "agitator dogs" ) or spinning the solution points to a couple of places.

1. The motor coupler may be broken. This piece is a fail safe between the motor and transmission. and basically transmits power to the transmission.

Remove the cabinet and inspect the coupler. Following is a good description of how to replace it if necessary.

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385250-replacing_motor_coupling_kenmore_top

The coupler consists of three pieces. Two plastic pieces with three prongs each that fit on the shafts of the motor and transmission and a rubber piece with six holes that the plastic prongs fit into.

If the prongs are broken off, or the rubber piece is broken, the motor cannot apply power to the transmission for agitating or spinning.

If the coupler is OK, the problem points to the motor or transmission.

If you move the timer to the spin cycle, and the machine drains the water , the motor is probably OK.

I'd also check the Lid Switch that prevents the motor from turning in the spin cycle.

Following is a Whirlpool PDf on how top load, direct drive washers work with a troubleshooting guide and description of how to bypass the LID Switch.

not even the sound of the motor running? Post back if you can hear the motor running stick an ear to the cabinet. If the motor is running then you need to change the drive to motor transmission coupling. Go to www.repairclinic.com and enter your model number then look for part 1195967. To see if this part is broken you'll have to remove the pump and the motor it's easy to do.

Sounds like you motor coupling has broken. The water pumps out so that tells me the lid switch is fime and motor is fine. The drive coupling mounted between the tranny and motor is probably broken

My washer wont spin

Your symptoms that indicates a broken motor coupler. If your washer will drain and fill but has not agitation action or spinning action that would indicate a broken motor coupler. The motor coupler links the drive motor to the transmission.
