Hello,

After lookng at the base specifacation of this laptop, even if it was upgraded the laptop would not support windows 7. Windows XP would be the latest OS you could install.

Bought this C510 at a yard sale. No user or admin password available. Windows xp comes up but wants me to login as user, tried administrator and its password protected as well. System will not let me...

You can use external CD drive to reinstall windows, or use Superutilities CD to change the passwords. Also you can take the HDD out and attach it to a desktop PC to ghost an image on it.
You can too replace the internal CD drive with a working one.

Dell Latitude xp pro product but I lost the cd.

Yes you can.
After installation you will need to activate it. If it wont activate online, then there is telephone activation option - always works.

Administrator password

Get the "Windows XP System Restore" CD-ROM disks specific to this computer from your friend. Restart the computer, and boot from the first CD-ROM, and re-install Windows, setting a password that you can remember.

Dell latitude c510/c610 wont turn on

Ok. Try the below steps.

1) Remove the batter and power adapter. Remove the CD/DVD Drive and any other connected devices like pen drive or mouse.

2) Now hold the power button for 30-40 seconds. Release it.

3) Now connect only the battery and try powering on. If no luck, connect the power adapter and check. (till now do connect the CD Drive - It can be a issue with the drive as well)

4) If no luck, you can try removing the RAM from the laptop and fixing it back.

5) If no luck, contact Dell Support for Replacement of Motherboard.

OS - windows home edition to windows XP - upgrade?

Home Edition is already a version of XP. XP was released in Home and Professional versions. You can find out for sure what version of software you have by right-clicking on the desktop icon for "My Computer" (or on the "My Computer" entry on the Start Menu if the icon is not on your desktop), then clicking on "Properties" from the popup menu.

If you want to upgrade from XP Home to XP Professional, you can do that with the appropriate upgrade CD. But unless you are networking in an office setting, there really are no features in Pro that you don't have in Home.

If you still have questions, please post a follow up comment and I will try to help further.
