Brand New Maytag MEDC465HWO Electric Was Smelling Strongly Like Fish Not In Drum

The orange glow is the heating element. The smell is the Phenolic Resin in the circuit boards. My dad worked for 20 years at the factory where the board material was made. It has a distinctive fishy smell. It should all settle down. Just make sure the vent pipe is as short as possible, there are no kinks and that the flap on the outside wall opens properly. There are three temperature safety devices in all dryers, thermostat, high limit thermostat and thermal cut out.

If the heating unit was bad there would be no orange glow or burning smell. Control board has off on function which is obviously not working

I have a Hotpoint CTD00G. My wife reported to me the drum was not turning on the dryer and there was a smell of burning and when she stopped the dryer and opened it she said it was glowing red hot at the...

this would be the heating element, and as long as the thermal fuse is not bypassed it is all good. You might want to clean all the lint inside(taking the dryer apart) and outside(vent tube) of the dryer, this should be done at least once a year if not twice depending on the usage. The thermal fuse is a safety feature which senses temperature and blows(one time use) thus preventing a fire. Hope this helped Tim

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

Kenmore Electric Dryer Series 80 Model

Disconnect the dryer from your vent completely,. pull dryer out 3 ft. from wall and test to see if the smell continues, You have to test for a few minutes to clear out any burning lint from vent restrictions. If the smell hoes away then you know you have venting problems. Also check on the grate that covers the element( the part you look through when you see the orange glow from the element) sometimes plastic or clothing burns onto this grate and needs to be cleaned off. I the smell remains, you will have to tear down the dryer to see if you can find the cause of the smell.

Gas dryer with gas smell and no heat

It sounds like your GLOW BAR gas igniter is bad. This is an electric powered heater coil that , when it glows red hot, ignites the gas burner. This part normally fails at least once during a dryers normal service life. If you are handy, you may be able to replace the part yourself. Otherwise, have a technician look at it. If you want to DIY, go to an appliance parts store . Remove and observe the GLOW BAR from your gas dryer. If one of the metal element appears to be burned open, replacement is necessary.. Show the part, along with your dryer maker, model, and serial number, to the store employee. This person can give you helpful info along with a new part. If the GLOW BAR is NOT burned out, seek out a technician.

Dryer burning smell

Have you painted or stained in your house or apartment recently? The smell gets everywhere, dryer, stove, heating unit. I recently primed with Kilz and the clothes from my dryer smelled burned. When I called for service, it was the first question the service person asked and said they made a lot of useless trips only to find nothing wrong with the appliance. That was my case. I had to rewash clothes and let the dryer run with towels for a while
