When is the last time that you had your dryer dlinted that red glow is from the heater which usually does glow red ad if you havent had your dryer dlinted within the past year you probably have lint that is smoldering on the inside when you turn the dryer on.if you are mechanically inclined you can open the machine and use a shop vac to **** up most of the lint there is also a blower vent tube inthe back of the machine that shoudl be also cleaned out if you are unable to do this please call a technician p.s. get a quote first you can usually shop around and get the best price on this type of job hope this helps

I have a Hotpoint CTD00G. My wife reported to me the drum was not turning on the dryer and there was a smell of burning and when she stopped the dryer and opened it she said it was glowing red hot at the...

this would be the heating element, and as long as the thermal fuse is not bypassed it is all good. You might want to clean all the lint inside(taking the dryer apart) and outside(vent tube) of the dryer, this should be done at least once a year if not twice depending on the usage. The thermal fuse is a safety feature which senses temperature and blows(one time use) thus preventing a fire. Hope this helped Tim

I have a MAYTAG PYG2300AWW dryer. Of late, I notice that all the whites are turning gray when I put them in the dryer.

Gas dryer with no heat: The parts that I have pointed out with the arrows are the parts that you will need to check with an ohm meter if the dryer is not heating. First check and see if you have 110 volts coming to the gas valve at this type of a connector. If you have voltage, then unplug the dryer and check the parts I have pointed to. Some dryers have 3 coils instead of the 2 shown here. If you do not have voltage coming to the burner, then you will need to check the timer contacts that feed the gas burner, hi limit thermostat, operating thermostats, the safety switch on the motor, and any other point that you can see on your wiring diagram picture that feeds voltage to the burner. The coils on the gas valve are very bad for working once or twice and then quitting. If you find a open circuit on one of the gas coils, replace them all = less problems later on. If the glow coil does not work ( get red ), check it with a ohm meter for continuity. The next thing to check if the glow coil does not come on would be the radiant sensor. Inspect the ignite for small burnt spot on dark gray or black part of ignite or check for 110 volts to ignite wire plug when dryer should be calling for heat. Sometimes the ( older style ) ignite is separate from the holder and the holder can no longer hold the ignite tight enough and the two parts burn/arc where they touch each other = new ignite and holder ( some manufactures have new kits to replace these older style parts ).
Does the ignite get red and stay red, or does it get red, you hear a click and it goes off, then a minute later its gets red again?....if so you possibly have a bad set of coil valves. If the ignite gets red and stays red constantly then its the flame switch that is bad and maybe welded closed.
Funny smell from a gas dryer.....If you are having trouble with a funny smell inside your dryer or on your clothes, consider this...have you painted or varnished anything inside the home recently? Your gas dryer uses a lot of air, not just the air that blows out the vent but the air used to burn the gas ( natural or propane ) as well, anything like paint fumes or varnish fumes in the air will be picked up in the air used by the burner flame and burnt....this is often described by customers as - burnt fabric softener smell ..... - burnt soap smell .... - burnt medicine smell. Open your windows, air out the basement/home as good as possible, most customers tell me this will go away after a week or so once everything is dried and all the fumes are gone. Remember, if you smell gas....turn off the gas valve to the dryer and call for service!!
A tip from ( Assistant Chief Fire Marshal Douglas ) - This is sometimes caused by the filter not being completely clean. By this I am referring to the clogging of the screen from the use of fabric softener sheets. The chemicals in these sheets will, over a period of time, impair the air flow through the screen and cause the "gas odor" to become prominent - not to mention the temperature to rise within the dryer. I clean my filter with soapy water and a tooth brush about every other month and it keeps this from occurring.please comment on these solution saying how helpful.

Kenmore Electric Dryer Series 80 Model

Disconnect the dryer from your vent completely,. pull dryer out 3 ft. from wall and test to see if the smell continues, You have to test for a few minutes to clear out any burning lint from vent restrictions. If the smell hoes away then you know you have venting problems. Also check on the grate that covers the element( the part you look through when you see the orange glow from the element) sometimes plastic or clothing burns onto this grate and needs to be cleaned off. I the smell remains, you will have to tear down the dryer to see if you can find the cause of the smell.

Gas dryer with gas smell and no heat

It sounds like your GLOW BAR gas igniter is bad. This is an electric powered heater coil that , when it glows red hot, ignites the gas burner. This part normally fails at least once during a dryers normal service life. If you are handy, you may be able to replace the part yourself. Otherwise, have a technician look at it. If you want to DIY, go to an appliance parts store . Remove and observe the GLOW BAR from your gas dryer. If one of the metal element appears to be burned open, replacement is necessary.. Show the part, along with your dryer maker, model, and serial number, to the store employee. This person can give you helpful info along with a new part. If the GLOW BAR is NOT burned out, seek out a technician.

Dryer burning smell

Have you painted or stained in your house or apartment recently? The smell gets everywhere, dryer, stove, heating unit. I recently primed with Kilz and the clothes from my dryer smelled burned. When I called for service, it was the first question the service person asked and said they made a lot of useless trips only to find nothing wrong with the appliance. That was my case. I had to rewash clothes and let the dryer run with towels for a while
