I have a Sony MEX-BT2800 Stereo that I was installing in my truck. I was installing it as the existing one that came with the truck had a functional radio, but the CD and IPod appeared to play but no sound came out. As the new stereo was a sony as well I used the existing wiring harness to attach to the BT2800. Now the radio works and I have the same problems with my IPod and CD player.

There are 2 blue wires........dont hook the blue to blue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hook blue to the blue/white wire!!!!!!!!!!! problem solved. so e-z huh? lol i did the same thing Disconnect whatever you have connected to the blue wire at the back of the head unit. Re-connect it to the blue/white wire instead. (I know you already have the remote wire from your amplifier connected to the blue/white; you'll have to connect them both). The blue wire should not be connected to anything; the blue/white should be connected to your amp remote wire, and whatever you had originally connected to the blue.

This will fix your problem.

If you were getting sound out of the radio, then the CD should give sound as well, unless there's something gorked inside the unit itself. The audio comes out of the same wires to the speakers for both CD and radio. also post the exact sony model for further assistance.

The model is a Sony MEX-BT2800. I just put it in as the existing stereo in the truck which I just bought had the exact same problem (CD player had no sound and IPod didn't have sound)

My Stereo is a Sony MEX-BT2800 and I replaced the one in the truck I recently purchased. The reason that I replace the stereo was the one that came with the truck (a Sony) had the exact same problem. The CD was playing and no sound and the IPod wouldn't work

Is it possible that something has locked down the head inside the unit (ie and set crew?)

  • Muzahura Frank Jul 13, 2010

Sure, if you say that radio has sound, then 100% ITS THE CD UNIT WITH ISSUES. cd and radio use the same speaker wiring. Also check the wiring harness and make sure its linked well with your car system (car model)

    Regards

Hi i have a sony car stereo that plays the radio only!

what is happening on the display is the laser reading the disc if its not reading the disc your cd player is faulty more than likely the laser is either dirty or had its day, make sure there is compatible music data on the disc, also check all the sound options on the stereo.

Car CD player plays but has no sound

Does your car have a premium sound system? Assuming that your cd deck is fine, try connecting your remote turn on wire from the sony to the corresponding wire on the car(if you bought a wiring harness, just match colors). Also some chryslers used a ground to turn on the amps.. a black wire with a female connector as well as a heavy ground ribbon cable... connect those 2 AND the ground to your stereo to enable the amplifiers.

Installed sony stereo in 2001 dodge ram

are you running an amplifier off the deck? it may be that you are turning the amplifier on with the power antenna wire instead of the amp turn on lead. so when you go from tuner to cd the amp turns off.

Friend,

Maybe, there is a problem from the detector of you radio function to the amplifier. Try to check on it first or try resoldering from the detector section
