Pool pump shutting down -- heater?

Kind of a cascading problem as we open our pool here in the sunny (!) pacific northwest!
24 ft round above ground plumbed with main drain
1 hp brand new pentair whisperflow (may be defective?)
Large sand filter, backwashed
green algae in pool
pool return froze last winter, just rebuilt
Rheem heater is 4yrs old, did not use it last year
OK: Pool pump died last fall and we bought a new one but didn't install it. Thought the lines were drained, but apparently one was not. But it is fixed now.
Just got the new pump inline and are working to raise TA and kill the algae so we can add sanitizer.
The pump ran for about 2 hours, smelled a little hot (new equipment?) then shut off. Pressure is at about 10, so that's not a problem.
Heater is throwing error code CFH Check Filter Strainer.
Ideas?
Pump was off for quite awhile, maybe some part of the heater is calcified/blocked? Maybe new pool pump is defective? Whaddya think?

Trying to get the TA correct before you kill the alge? Leslies diagnosis?
You probally just need to kill the alge before you do anything. Nevermind the TA for now and just add about ten gallons of liquid chlorine. The alge untill you kill it will plug the filter constantly. This will give you the code on the heater and will make the pump run very hot and will hurt the plumbing by shrinking it. This will stop water flo by letting air in also it will leak water at the pump discharge.
A lot of liquid will break the alge as it is unstable, but use a lot.Once you kill the most of the alge then add probally another four gallons and now brugh the whole thing real good. now you can start running again and start with all the stuff they will sell you to adjust the PH and TA. I hope this helps, and good luck.

Our pool is about 90000 litres of water so how big filter do we need please

If you have a above ground pool go with the Cartridge or sand, and if underground go sand or D.E. All have their ups and down you should find out what you want from them specifically cause they all do varying amounts of the same thing.

Sand Filters
(Filters using literally sand)
For sand filters, on inground pools, I like to use a 30 inch tank diameter, which is a 4.9 sq. ft. filter surface area, and holds 600 lbs of sand. For small pools (under 20,000 gals), I might advise the next size down (24 inch tank), if the budget is tight. But never go smaller than a this for an inground pool.
Cartridge Filters (like a air filter)
I have a rule of thumb for cartridge pool filters. 100 sq. ft. of filter surface area per 10,000 gals of pool water, as a minimum. I like to see the 400 sq. ft. models on inground pools above 25,000 gals. These can go an entire season without cleaning in most cases.
D.E. Filters (Ground up fossilized algae)
Because they offer the most superior type of filtration, people tend to go small with DE, and buy a 24 or 36 sq. ft. DE filter. Ugh - go Big! Nothing below a 48 sq. ft. filter, and if your pool is over 25,000 gals, go with the Big Boy - the 60 sq. ft. filter.

Also make sure the filter can take the amount of water that the pump is pushing through it.

I am getting an error code ags

AGS - Auto Gas Shutoff = Because of a problem sensed, the gas valve is closing, stopping gas supply and hence heater shutoff.
Improper water flow through heater! Check filter, pump, water supply lines, anything that will reduce water flow into heater.
A faulty Pressure Switch may cause this problem as well.
or...
In coming water to heater is over 104°
If all is good with the above, replace the AGS Switch.

How much salt do i need for a 24 ft round pool

depending on the salt system you are using, the amount of salt will vary. the owners manual should have a salt table with a recommended value. most salt systems will require somewhere close to a 3000 ppm level. to get this, you will need approximately 140 kg of salt. (65 lbs)

I have a Hayward Power-Flo LX SP1515-Z2-EBK3 that is being used to pump water through 2-4x8 solar water heater panels. The pump intake is 1 1/2 inch, discharge out is also 1 1/2 inch. The pump is located...

I have a 3/4 hp hayward pumping thru solar panels, too. 1-1/2 discharge thru 50 ft of 2inch pipe, up 12 ft then thru (4) 4x12 panels. Mine is on 115 volts ac.
You have plenty of pump and when you run a pump with low flow, amperage is low. You are not tripping your breakers, it sounds like the pump is overheating. Is it hot to the touch when it shuts down?
Do you have an ammeter so you could check your amps?
What size wire is running the 60 ft to the pump?

I don't have any other ideas to share.

My heater is flashing SERVICE, and the letters ROL on the left side of the digital readout. I have cleaned my filter to no avail. Heater is two months old, being used on a 24' round above ground...

ROL would signify an open roll out safety switch. This is a small ceramic part with two wires plugged onto it and one screw holding it to the front of the burner compartment. This is there so that if the flame reaches the front compartment it opens and shuts down the heater to prevent burining up all the wiring and destroying the heater. This can be caused by a high wind while the heater is running, but can also be caused by a plugged up heat exchanger. It is an inexpensive part and easily replaced. Just be careful and always keep your face and body away from the front of the heater when firing it after doing repairs.

Buying a pool heater. Which brand best reliability and service. Looking at Hayward H series cupro nickel 400 K Btu Nat Gas. Also considering Pentair MasterTemp CuproNickel 400 K. Will be heating an...

Both of those heaters are fine I prefer the Pentair for it's smaller footprint and ease of installation as you can turn it for access to plumbing. The Hayward is tougher to turn the exchanger on and you only have right or left as options for the plumbing to come out. Sta-Rite is still my favorite for installation being easy to plumb, wire and run gas to. It's very easy to change from natural to LP also.
Most heaters today are the same in reliablity and that is mostly up to you to keep the chemicals correct. Being in the business I always look to ease of install and access for repair.

We change our pool that we have had for 10 years over to the intex salt system. 4ft X 24 ft round above ground pool. 13500 gla water. We put in 10- 40lb bas of pool salt and have ran the system for the 12...

The pool is green because you didn't take the metal out of the water first. It is too late now to do that ... you will just have to let the filter grab it. It may trake several days. Run the filter 24/7 for those couple days for best results.

Next time you fill your pool ... get a sequestering agent to grab the metals before you introduce CL to your pool. Use the sequestering agent according to the container instructions.

Your salt level should be around 3200 ppm, is it?

Green water

Chlorine generators raise your pH over time. You will always have to monitor and, on occassion, adjust your pH down using acid. Your water being out of balance likely lead to the green water condition.

Check your alkalinity first and adjust it if needed. Once it is stable, adjust pH using acid, then get your pool shocked to kill off the algae. You made need an algacide too but save that for last and only if required.
