The easiest way is to insert the XP disk in the CD drive and restart the machine and force it to boot from the CD. The installation process should give you the option to format your drive and choose regular formatting or NTSF formatting. I would choose NTSF but that is your choice.

Good day. I bought this Netbook with Windows 7 installed. I need to format and reload Windows XP as I have software that I need to use that only works with XP, I have an external "USB CD Drive"...

Hi neil720...

Installing the external CD Player...
You will go and start up and install Windows XP by doing he following:
Plug in your external CD drive, and let windows install it into the system...
Once the CD is ready to go, shut down the computer.
***************************************************************************************
You will first need to format your hard drive, I will give you instructions on how to do that.

1...To format your hard drive and install XP:
To set you computer back to factory fresh settings you will need to format the hard drive and install the XP operating system and the drivers.

1.Format the hard drive:
You do this by double left clicking on "My Computer",then double left click the main drive (normally C drive).
When the window pops open, you will choose "Format"
Keep in mind that once you format your hard drive you will loose all your files, programs, pictures, etc that you installed since the computer was new.
So make your back up on a portable hard drive, thumb drive, etc.
2. Once the formatting of the hard drive is complete you will need to install the XP operating system along with the drivers.
You will now insert the CD's into your external CD player starting with #1 first and continuing until all has been installed.
After all has been installed, shut your computer off and restart.
That will bring your computer back to Windows XP factory new condition as far as operating is concerned.

First, your Windows XP must be either SP2 or SP3, and then you must add a patch to it. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955704/en-us that is KB955794 for the patch

Have a HP SR1010V, 33GB HD - XP Home. Want to 1) replace HD with a 100-200GB HD OR 2) ADD a 100-200GB HD and 3) ADD a DVD drive. What is best way to copy data to a new HD and to boot the new HD. Rather...

The easiest route would be to install the new hard drive in place of the old hard drive and place the old hard drive below the new hard drive and make it a secondary hard drive or slave drive. Once you have them installed this way you can install Windows XP Home to the new hard drive once you have it installed to the hard drive then you can copy everything from your old hard drive to the new one. Once you have everything copied from the old hard drive you can then format it within Windows to have 33GBs of space to store anything you wish. If you need more detailed instructions don't hesitate to reply.

What operating system are you using to connect to this harddrive?

In XP you can go to the control panel and use the administrative tools section and access the computer computer management section and through there that will allow you to format it.

Also you can right click the drive through the my computer window and select format to format the drive as well.

Hard drive not recognised

It may not appear like your other drives eg. C: d: etc
it may appear as a removable drive lower down in the list.

Or you may have to add a drive letter

To add a drive letter in XP
Go to control panel, administrative tools, computer management.

Now select disk management, your drive should show in here
right click on it and click change drive letter and paths
now click add at the bottom of this box and just click ok

You should now be able to see it fine

New hard drive not recognized on my mac

I figure it is a compatible drive (eg, either a PATA or SATA drive, depending on what your Mac uses). I don't know a whale of a lot about Macs, but I know that when you add a second hard drive, especially if you are using a PATA (uses the wide ribbon cable), one drive needs to be jumpered and cabled as "master", and the second drive as a "slave". If the XP drive was the only one in the box, it was likely jumpered as a master.

How to fix it? Look on the drive itself, and it should have a small diagram telling you how to set the jumpers (usually located next to the power connector on the drive). Set the add-on as a slave, and give it a whirl.

Also, don't be surprised if you have to re-format the drive. I doubt that a Mac uses a Win compatible structure.

Cheers
Nick

Uninstall xp

You can remove service pack 2 from within add/remove programmes, you will not lose any documents, but you will lose the udated security patches which is not recommended. If you mean you wish to remove XP SP completely, obviously the files and everything you have installed on c drive will be deleted as you can only save docs etc within an operating system, as c: is just a partition on your hard drive the files reside within the operating system. If you are upgrading to another operating system my advice would be to use a dual boot system and install the other operating system on a seperate partition of your drive, but you would have to have a fair knowledge of pc operating system installation processes.
