I have compaq nc6400 its working but not showing display i connect to external lcd also but its not showing disply its giving booting sound laptop is working but not giving display, pls suggestions.

It may be your Graphics adapter. If the external is connected correctly and not showing anything. There is a tiny switch the turns the Monitor on and off when you open and close the Laptop lid, perhaps it's stuck, broken, etc. I'm not sure that would shut down the external? The switch is located near the hinges. Here is a video that will help with troubleshooting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Yi6GNFcP3w

Hi, my HP Compaq Presario has been working great till the 5th of July when it shut down unexpectedly. I instantly turned it on again and shuts down again after booting up. I waited for about an hour, then...

Due to the heavy processing the PC heats up. Excessive heatup beyond usual is alarming and PC shuts down by itself when the processor/ CPU temperature exceeds the safe temperature limit. There are mainly two reasons for heatup.
Heating issue generally occurs due to fan failure, which may damage the system, if not checked and resolved properly. Another most likely cause of overheating is the dust present inside the PC, which clogs the fan and heatsink. As you have mentioned that the fan is not running, most probably the fan has gone dead or it may have stopped working due to clogging with dust and hence it needs cleaning or replacement. To do so, you need to purchase a new fan and disassemble the laptop to replace the fan.
To replace the fan, you have to disassemble the laptop and for that you need to have the laptop repair manual that can be downloaded here.
(I think that you have HP CQ60-419WM Laptop). The repair manual contains all the information as well as graphic illustration about disassembling and replacing the fan. Please refer to Page 4-41 for complete details.

If you are able to work inside such electronics and have some disassembling experience, you may try to do it yourself. However, if you have no experience, it is strongly recommended that you seek professional help from HP authorized repair/ service professional.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

HP Compaq nc6220 shuts off

It sounds like something is dislodged or loose. When turned off, take a look at it and make sure that all screws are in properly and that all doors are closed properly. After the checkup, place your hands onto it to feel if anything is still loose. It might be best to look inside it but don't touch the insides if it's under warranty. If you have warranty, call Compaq for instructions. If not - and you can see something obvious that can be placed back, then do so. If it looks okay and seemingly there is no reason for the shut downs, then contact Compaq to see if there can be any possibility for replacement parts or further instructions. If this helps you, please do rate me. Thanks. Good luck.
