Return the unit to the pawn shop. This is a PIN put in by the original user just in case it gets stolen. If the original user sold this to the pawn shop they would of removed the PIN or provided it to the pawn broker. If it was stolen there is nothing you can do but throw the unit out if the pawn broker will not help.

I bought it at a pawn shop. How dumb can, I be? It ask for a PIN#. And say's Lost satellite reception. What do I do?

Take the GPS back to the pawn shop. They should be able to get the pin number for you from the previous owner.

If they cannot or if they refuse, demand a refund from them. The unit is useless without the pin and it may even be stolen goods (illegal). If the dealer does not cooperate, report them to the local police for investigation.

Just bought a Garmin GPS. Where do I find the PIN number to use it for the first time?

If it is asking for a PIN number, then the unit has been secured by the previous owner. If you bought it new, take it back to the store for a new unit. If you bought it used, you cannot change the PIN number. Only Garmin can unlock it and you will need an original receipt from a licensed Garmin dealer to unlock it and they will probably charge you for this service. This is a security feature so that the unit cannot be used if it is stolen.

I just bought a nuvi 205w from a pawn shop and they could not tell what the pin was to unlock it. How can I make my new gps functional again?

Once the pin number is entered the only way to change it or remove it, if you don't know it, is to send it back to garmin with proof of ownership. This is to stop thieves being able to use them. If you got a receipt from the pawnshop that should do as proof. If not it would be a good idea to go back and ask for one. Garmin contact details can be had at

How can I unlock a passcoded Nuvi 265WT?

This GPS doesn't come pass code protected, that code is put in by the owner, so i must assume this is not your property.

GPS C550 ASKING FOR pin after 4 months used

Your only options for unlocking a PIN locked Garmin are:

1 - Enter the correct PIN.
2 - Take the unit to the location at which the PIN was originally entered.
3 - Send the unit back to Garmin. If it IS stolen (if you bought it off, how do you know for sure it isn't?) it will be returned to the original owner and you will be out the money you spent. There is NO workaround this SECURITY feature.

Asking for pin

There is a good chance that this unit is stolen. The real owner would have removed the PIN before selling it. You could try to contact the manufacturer but they will check the serial number and attempt to contact the previous owner. If it's determined that it is stolen, they will contact the authorities. This is information is taken directly from their website.

Save yourself a lot of headaches... take it back and get your money back.

Pin number

According to the c550 owners manual, the only way to bypass the PIN request is to drive to the security location where the PIN was set. When you are at that location the GPS will NOT ask for a PIN. Since you bought the GPS at a pawn shop, you probably don't know the security location either.

In that case, according to the owners manual, you'll have to send the unit back to Garmin to be unlocked. Go to

I know you won't like my solution but its the only solution available.

Good luck,
