Question about Apple iPhone 3G

1 Answer

My iphone got wet, was submersed for about a minute in a river. I immediately put it in rice, next day took apart and put outside to dry on a windy day. It was not terribly wet at all. The next day, today, I tried to turn it on but nothing. I tested it by plugging into my mac and it recognized it. YAY! It automatically opened itunes and said I needed a restore. It went through restore and gave me error message 21. I am wondering why it is not displaying anything on the iphone at all. Not even the apple symbol. Any ideas on what may need to be replaced. It is completely dry now.

We can do first here a RESET on your IPHONE and check if this will resolve the problem, follow this steps. But if still no display the IPHONE needs to be repair and possibility screen replacement. So to avoid further damage take it to a service center near you and have it repair of better have it replace.

Press and hold down the Sleep/Wake button and Home button simultaneously for a least 10 seconds. The screen will clear out and then the Apple Logo will appear on the black background. When the logo appears it means that the reset is done.

Hey there, thanks for your quick response! :) I tried what you said and nothing came on my iphone screen. However, it did que itunes and said I needed to do a restore. What is error 21 all about? They will not replace my iphone as it is water damaged. I have no clue where to take it for repairs. I am from Canada. Do you know of anywhere I can send it to? I am hopeful though if it is recognizing it through my computer. What do you think?

The error that you have has something to do with the corrupted software on your IPHONE that it cannot be read by your Itunes so we have here a software and hardware problem on your phone. Yes Apple will replace this phone You can take it to this Apple center. 220 Yonge Street Toronto, Ontario M5B 2H1 (647) 258-0801

But I have voided the warranty by taking it apart

  • vanessarburn Jul 13, 2010

Also, I am from Alberta. I called the apple store in Edmonton (closest to me) and they said I was pretty much hooped!

Ok so the phone was already taken apart then, you can still send it for repair and screen replacement and you will pay the service charge for it and for the parts that they will be replacing.

  • vanessarburn Jul 13, 2010

Are you saying that I can mail it to them in Toronto and they will take it there? Why would Edmonton say no??

  • vanessarburn Jul 13, 2010

Any clue how much this will cost?

  • Mark Gil
    Mark Gil Jul 13, 2010

Yes they will not repair it for free, but if there's any cellphone repair near your area it will be better if you just take it there and have it fix from them.

The cost for the repair and part replacement will be a bit high but still lower rather than getting a new IPHONE.

Thank you so much for all your help :)

I live 5 hours north of the biggest centre and do not have any cell phone repair places here. Do you recommend anywhere I can send it to?

Water

You can put it in rice, the rice will drain the water out this is how (1) Remove it from the water immediately. (2) Turn the iPhone off. (3) Dry it off with a towel (4) Grab a bowl and fill it with uncooked rice or you can also put your phone in with a bunch of silica packets. (4) Put the phone in the bowl of rice and cover it up. The purpose of this is to draw moisture out of the phone as quickly as possible. You can also let it air dry, however the above methods will work faster. NOTE: Do not dry it off with a blow dryer as this could melt the circuit board and other parts. Leave your phone in the rice for at least 24 hours and preferably 48 hours. Hopefully, after 24 -48 hours the phone will have dried out, the logic board wasn't damaged, and hopefully you can turn your phone on and it will work. If not, your next option is to see if it can be repaired without costing you an arm and a leg.

Binoculars got wet What now

Put your binocs in a big bag of dry rice. Leave them alone for a day or two. The moisture should go to the rice, but you may have deposits (the stuff in the water) on the lens, inside, where you can't clean the lens. Not much help can I give you there. Maybe contact the manufacturer.

Soaked iphone 3gs

There are products that you can buy to help dry the phone, like a bag of silica gel. I like using the free way, which is using a bag of dried rice. Whataver you do, do not attempt to turn on the phone, that will definitely ruin it, if the components are still wet inside.
  1. Take a bag of uncooked rice, and submerge the phone in the dry rice for at least 3 days. Keep the bag in a cool and dry place.
  2. After three days, if there is any indication that the phone is still wet, return the phone to the bag and wait another day.
  3. Once you believe the phone is dry (max 4 days) remove the phone from the rice, and attempt to turn it on.

I dropped my iphone 4g in water and immediately put it in a bag of rice. the next day, about 20 hours later, i plugged it in to the charger and it started right up. when it got to the start screen it...

Unfotunately the water does not dry out that fast. It takes days for the phone to dry out. You should have let it sit for about 3 to 4 days. It probably is too late but. keep it in the rice.Good luck

How do I dry the phone out after I ran it through the washer?????

If it's windy outside, take apart as many parts as you can WITHOUT using any pressure on them to avoid breaking them, and place them carefully outside. Otherwise, just put it there without taking it apart.

Iphone got wet. camera shutter is stuck closed

you might have a lot of corrosion inside your phone.

try to open it up and clean it very well with alcohol.

the main camera does not work probably because of corrosion on its connector to the main board.

see the picture I took a few days ago:

Phone got wet & works fine but says network error

Cell phones do not recover gracefully from getting wet internally. The electronics were not made to get wet.
You would be better served to get a new phone. Getting a cell phone wet is almost alway death to the electronics, even if the phone is dried out completely, The problems caused by the damp electronics will cause strange and intermittent problems.

I got my Palm Centro wet. I took the screws out

do not put your phone in ANY liquid, even rubbing alcohol! any liquid puts your phone at risk of corrosion in places you cannot see. even if it works fine now, that is no guarantee that there is not still small amounts of moisture inside that may still cause damage later. take your phone apart, put all the pieces of your phone in a ziploc bag of uncooked rice, and LEAVE IT IN THERE for at least 24 hours. having the battery in at all when there may be moisture inside puts your phone at risk for more damage. save yourself trouble later by leaving it alone in the rice for as long as you can. two days would be better.
