There should be a menu button on the front of the monitor that will allow you to adjust those settings.

How can I decrease brightness and contrast?

one of the buttons will have dust in it causing it to trigger randomly or it is faulty take it apart and replace the buttons, make sure you do all otherwise it will still do it the work on impedence and they are all in series

Sounds like the buttons or the button panel are messed up. Or it has gotten moisture in it.

The only time i have seen this was when one of the buttons were malfunctioning, and we ended up replacing the monitor.

The front panel switches are known to become leaky.You need to replace these switches.

Monitor Screen Bright with horizontal white lines


I have an emachine 17" Flat Panel Monitor and I accidently touched the Standby Mode on my keyboard and now my menu won't work right. I can't adjust the color enough. If there is anything I can do to fix my problem it would be appreciated.

Dell E173FP 17-inch Flat Panel Color LCD Monitor


The dell monitors are bad with capacitors going out, check caps in power supply and video board. You can use a can of freeze, it would be easier that way. Just be careful not to touch anything, because these monitors can shock easy.
