You will have to ajust the fast Idel down an then for the Idle air an fuel screws up till it Idels even. If it does not Idle even you have went to low on the fast idel. Only adjust the screws a quarter turn at a time till you get it to purrr like a kitten. I also have one of those an had the same problem.Luckily my father is a master mec. for caddys, ford, chevy, dodge, etc. He can pretty much listen to any car made ever imports an fix whatever is wrong. Hes 74 years old an thats all he has ever done is work an build old cars.

Ajust idle on 2002 FXDL

Hi Anonymous, on the right hand side of the carburator there is an idle adjusting screw with a spring behind it, turn screw clockwise to increase idle counter clockwise to decrease idle. There is also an air/fuel mixture screw inside a carb body lug that may or may not be plugged with an aluminum cap that's about 3/16" thick. This cap can be drilled out to acess the air/fuel mixture screw. Turning screw clockwise will lean out mixture and lower idle, turning screw counter clockwise will richen mixture and raise idle. You need to balance the two adjusting screws to obtain an idle of 950-1000 RPM then back out air/fuel mixture screw 1/4 turn, snap throttle to confirm responce, you may continue to back out air/fuel mixture screw untill desired throttle responce is achieved, if you see black smoke coming out of exhaust you have gone to far and need to turn screw back in 1/8 turn at a time. Good luck.

Esco chainsaw model 162

The adjuster screws on a chainsaw carb are fuel screws, not air screws, so by unscrewing them anti clockwise will richen the mixture, there are normally three screws, an engine idle screw, this will operate against the throttle spindle, a screw marked L, this will adjust the fuel mixture from idle to half throttle including acceleration, and a screw marked H, this will ajust the fuel mixture from half throttle to full revs, as this will increase the maximum revs it is very importent not to exceed the manufacturers no load speeds, so a engine tacometer should be used to check this, over speeding can seriously damage the engine.

There will be three screws on the carb, the tick over screw, a L screw which ajust the mixture from idle to half throttle, ans a H screw which adjusts the fuel running speed, they are both fuel screws not air screws, start with a basic settinf of one and a half turns on each from closed, with the saw idling gently screw the L screw in, the revs will start to increse as the mixture weakens off, it will reach a point where it starts to die, at this point start unscrewing the L screw, the revs will increse again and then start to die because its too rich, now turn it in 10 minutes on a clock face, check that it revs cleanly, adjust the idle screw so as the chain does not rotate around the bar, the H screw controls the max rpm, this should be set with a rev counter, it should not exceed 12500rpm

You have two setting screws on front of carb, You start off by adjusting all the way to the left, Then back off 3/4 turn to both setting screws, Then you have to set your air fuel mixture by just slowly turn your setting clock wise do so until vibration go away. Sorry there is no easy way to explain, Good luck to you,

Change your spark plug
If the fuel oil mixture is too oily it will foul the spark plug and no cleaning will get it right.
If there is a lot of oil in the crankcase it may foul the new spark plug so another new one is needed
